Original or color change ???

Looking at my 1968 I'm getting ready to tear it down to start work on it, and I'm thinking should I just restore it back to the original color or do a color change it's that baby blue not and it's not it bad shape on the inside but will need new a paint job. Any suggestions... Also is there a post somewhere that will help tell the difference between the years on parts. I have a bench seat and some one told me it was a 69 instead of a 68

Re: Original or color change ???

I can't speak to the seat as mine is a '72. Thankfully though, there are many experts around here that can give you all those details. This board is a fantastic resource.

As far as paint, I say paint it whatever color you want to. There's lots of photo threads here that'll help you envision what all the combinations will look like. I don't think you'll hurt the value to change it.

Re: Original or color change ???

Easiest way to tell is that the 1968 seats usually fold forward. Many diferences between the two years; seat tracks, seat construction, etc..

I like all colors of trucks.

If you going through all the work that a repaint requires, paint it a color that you like!

Re: Original or color change ???

When I repainted my 67 I decided to keep it the factory pastel green.....They don't make trucks that color anymore, that's for sure!

All of the factory colors of that time error had that "pastel" kind of theme going on. I consider the factory color a "badge of honor" since it speaks of era it was made.

Re: Original or color change ???

If you don't like the orig color then absolutely change it to suit your taste. Nothing worst then building a vehicle and trying to make OTHER people happy and not your self.

Re: Original or color change ???

I agree 110% with joesgreen67. It's all in personal opinion but nothing to me looks worse then something you can tell when it was built (mid 90s mini trucks) something original paint NEVER goes out of style. If you pick a different color in the same era I say change it if you like but I wouldn't put some 2014 Mercedes color on it. Again all opinions that's just mine

Re: Original or color change ???

Its in what you want, if its a matching number truck and you want it to be as original as possible then the same color. If you don't like Baby Blue and don't care if its mostly all original than paint it whatever you want.

My truck was the same color as joesgreen67 and i dig the color, and i want it to go back to that color because my uncle painted the truck many years ago and that paint is shot, if it was a color i didn't like i'd just find a different color.

Re: Original or color change ???

There are some weird colors from 67-72, but I personally like the baby blue. I've thought about a different color for mine down the road, but think I would regret it. Not too many gloss orange vehicles around, lol. Your money and truck

Re: Original or color change ???

All the original colors look just right. If someone doesn't like it you just say it's what came on the truck. It's when you go changing that you can go wrong. Not saying there are no good unoriginal colors, many look great. It all depends on the desired end result. If I change a color,on the type of trucks I like to do,I go with looks like it could have been used. I like a late-60s/early-70s truck to look like it's those times. My build from parts '67 GMC will have a non-original color (I think) but it will be a color that looks like someone could have painted it back then. It's a mild custom,so I kinda want it to look like someone changed the color
