Blazer 16.5" rims.

Hi, I am new to the board. I own a 1970 K/5 Blazer that I bought in May 1970. The Blazer was ordered with the deep dish 16.5" rims with the Goodyear Custom Xtra Grip tires. I have been told that these rims are rare. Does anyone know how rare they are? My dad still owns a 1970 K/20 with the same rims, only difference that they have 8 lugs instead of the 6. My Blazer also has the original 350, 4 speed, Dana 20 transfer case, 3.73 12 bolt, CST package, HD suspension, tach, PS, PB, posi rear, HD cooling, AM radio, and rear seat. I am in the process of collecting parts for a thorough and well deserved restoration.

I am just finishing up a restoration on a 1970 CST Blazer- not half the options or as original as yours, but it has been fun none the less! Welcome to the best board you can find!

Hmmm, 16.5s on a 1/2 ton, very interesting. I have only heard of one other equipped like that.
Welcome to the boards, maybe some one will be able to shed some more light on this option.

Here is a shot of the wheels.

This is a shot of a 1972 Blazer with the same 16.5" rims my 1970 has on it. There are not any provisions for attaching hubcaps to these.

I just picked up a pair of those wheels from a 1/2 ton GMC camper special. I doubt if i will ever find 2 more to match.

Sound like you've really got something there. Are the rims listed on your glove box options list?

pics?

Very interesting. Never seen or heard of that rim being on a Blazer.

Yes, the rims are a RPO, and it is listed on the glovebox door. I will try to take some pictures of the Blazer and post them. A good friend of mine ordered a 1971 Blazer with the exact options and color (bronze), and it also had the 10-16.5 tire option. That Blazer was sold off in 1984 due to rust. If I had known how rare the wheels were, I would have bought the whole thing for parts.

16.5 wheels

I have 2 that were from a 71 gmc 4x4, they look like wagon wheels but the spokes are spaced wider apart. The jimmy had all 4 but I sold it with the other 2 on there.I would be interested in getting the set complete again,if anyone comes across any or seeling my 2 to complete someone else's set.

I have one lonely 16" wheel on my 71 4x4 suburban. It is the spare and the only factory wheel remaining. The others were swapped out for 15's at some point.

Da-Burb: Is the spare wheel on your Suburban a 16.5" like the ones on my Blazer, or an entirely different wheel?

years ago i had a 71 4x4 1/2 ton with 8.25x 16.5s factory, it came from the coast here in calif and the wheels were too rusty so i pitched them. i had another 71 4x4 1/2 ton that had factory 16x6s on it, same situation as da-burb, only one left was the spare, the rest were 15s.

I just sold the same set you have for $150 for the set. I had them blasted and painted white. It took me 2 different guys to get the set. I advertised them on this board. I may still have a pic.

6.50 X 16 tube type tires were an option on at least the 1970 Blazer. They are listed in the specs in the brochure. Availability of 16 inch tires in the early '70s must have been horrible, which would be why everyone swapped them out for 15 inchers.

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys for the compliments. I do have my work cut out for me, but the biggest modifications to the vehicle are a dual exhaust system, and a aftermarket AM/FM Cassette(dash uncut), so the vehicle is essentially untouched, unlike most of the first generation Blazers. Everything but the front clip and frame is rusty, and I am desparately looking for a rust-free shell to replace my rotted one. When it is done, it will be better than when I first drove it off the lot in 1970.

Blazer for sale!

Here is the site where this beautiful Blazer is for sale. Although it currently wears the 16.5" rims, it did not originally come with them.
