´67 weekend driver

im almost ready to start the frame off in my 67.
ive had it for 6 years most of this time in storage..
the only thing i ve done is put a 5.7 vortec /4l60 is mounted but not wired.
i already have a painless wiring arness that i bought last year.

i bougth the engine, transmission, diff. tank. radiator from the 1999 donor truck.

plan is to use the new diff it has disc brakes, i hope i can narrow this since it is wider than the stock rear diff. any one has done this diff swap??
i will post pictures later.

i hope i can start next week.

Let's see some pics! Your plan sounds similar to a few really nice builds going on here now. Tons of info here but I have never personally heard of doing the late model rear end swap. Anything is possible just got to weigh out if it's worth the time, money and effort. Looking forward to seeing pics.

that is what im thinking if it is better to use the "new" dif, involves a lot of work.
narrow, cut and respline axle, and bore them to 5 on 5". but it already have disc brakes

on the other hand i have to change ring and pinion since it is really slow.. then change bolt pattern on axles and make it disc brake..

Might be cheaper/easier to find a 71-72 12 bolt rear end and just slap disk brakes on it. Looks like a solid platform to start with. What's your build plans?

that is a good option ill look for it at the junk yard.

my plan is to do a complete frame off resto mod.

sand blast bare frame and suspension parts, then spray some black epoxy finish.

some parts i already have are:
mcgauhgys drop spindles 2 1/2"
front disc rotors from power slot.
Eibach Front drop springs 1"
mc gaughys rear drop springs 4"
painless efi arness for vortec 5.7/4l60e
cab corner patch..
18" Chrome wheels


get sheet metal to bare metal and try to do as more as posible the body work by myself.

exterior no mods. i like the ´67
interior i would like some new style seats good sound sistem.

I guess the bed has been swapped since it has marker lights? Looks like a pretty solid starting point for sure. How wide is the new model rearend? I put a '73 up 2wd rearend under my coil spring '70 model...just had to cut the leaf spring pads off and weld on the appropriate trailing arm pads...the rearend is a bit wider than the 2 offered in the 67-72 trucks, but hasn't given me any issue...I just swapped the drums to disc.

yes the bed was swapped because it had a Mexican made one that i didnt liked because of the wheel arc was like a 65 bed...
the "new" rear end is a 1999 silverado but is 6 " wider than the stock one..
i have to measure how it fits with the wheels ill use on the truck. if there is enough clearance for tires would be ok..

Warning: they come apart way faster than they go together.(ask me how I know).
Not sure about the drop spindles? check with lolife99 he knows everything there is to know about these truck suspensions.

Nice project! Do you have any pictures of the old Mexican bed? Is your truck a true Latin American model? Do you have any pictures of your gauge cluster?

cant find photos of the bed it seems to be that the bed was made in mex and the cab is same as usa made, look at the pics in the post to see the dash.

i just found the motor was mounted awkward
mounts where cut and a angle iron welded to it...

dont know if it was a clearance issue, but i think is best to order headers now so i can fit it before i paint the frame and now that a have loose bolts and nuts..

i think i should move the "custom" tranny bridge too..

any advice i can get to mount the engine would be nice.

i just stripped the paint on a bed side, i think is good, no rust just some dents and holes from trim. hope the other side is same..

just started to disassemble and thought i have to replace cab corners and rockers, so i needed a mig welder, bougth a miller 211 and made a cart for it. another proyect.... but it will help on the build of the truck

after some time i finally started again working on the truck.
y removed one side of the front clip.
leave the other so i can install the drop spindles, and drop coils , crossdrilled front rotors and see how the tire and wheel combo fits..

some of the parts i got are: all Moog front suspension, total urethane bushings set,mcgauhgys spindles2.5" lower , front rotors,Eibach 2"lower Front coils, mcgahugys rear springs 4" lower. i got a used tire to check fitment before i order new tires. and a set of headers..
so i have a lot of work to do.

my plan is to install spindles, rotors and coils to check the stance.
then take out the cab and redo the engine & tranny mounts.

i removed the old coils and replaced w the new eibach ones. removed front drums, put the new spindles, bearings and rotors so it is closer to the ground
18" wheel 275/55r18 tire. i like it!
