1967 p10 stepvan help

So I have this cool little 1967 P10 stepvan shorty and hoped someone could help out with some questions

1. I found that rims are 6 on 5.5 but would wheels from like an older silverado fit? I tried one set and the lugs would not come through the holes. Just didnt seem to sit right. Forgive my ignorance on this but just trying to understand what I should be getting or looking for in terms of backspacing.

2. The van sits so high up with much space above tires to wheel well bottom. How would one lower it without bags and not messing up ride quality (if there is any lol).

3. Does this van have same frame/suspension as same year Chevy vehicle like a pickup?

Thanks!

Re: 1967 p10 stepvan help

The chassis parts are pretty much the same as the C10 model. The steering gear & column are different. The newer 6 hole wheels will not work but 70 on back wheels or 70's 4 wheel drive will work.
Most body parts like latches & handles & wiper parts are available from Mill Supply. Call & ask for there walk in van catalog.
Is yours an aluminum body or steel?
I specialized in those type trucks for many years when I had a shop.

Re: 1967 p10 stepvan help

Thanks! Trying to find larger wheels as 15 inch tires are not as popular these days and expensive. So does anyone know if wheels like silverado wont work..any aftermarket larger wheels that would fit? Looking for something 17 inch...

How do i lower it without cutting things.

Re: 1967 p10 stepvan help

There's lots of information on this site about lowering a C10. All of that applies to your P10. Assuming you have a coil sprung rear, that's about as easy a set up as it gets to lower. Replace all 4 springs for a 2/4 drop. Replace all 4 springs, shocks, trac bar, and drop spindles in the front for a 4/6 drop. In my opinion just put bags in the rear from the get go.

If you are stuck on the 6 lug set up and steel wheels consider the late model 'transport' wheels. Also look at Wheel Vintiques for custom options. There are also some manufacturers of 20+ steelies like Centerline, Mob Steel, Detroit, and Stockton.

Let's see some pix of the P10!

You need to know what body co built the body. Probably Union City. Might be Grumman if it is aluminum. Most door hardware is the same on P10 & P30.
