Disc brake conversion

Hi guys new here and I have a quick question. I was wondering what rotors and calipers are used on the conversions offered from CPP, ECE and others? I would like to purchase the spindles and I have a friend who has some new spare rotors and calipers from his 72 I can get for free. Just trying to keep the costs down, I tried searching here and other places with no clear answer. Thanks in advance Mike.

Re: Disc brake conversion

Mike, I purchased the kit that ECE sells. When I bought the 4/6 drop kit with the drop spindles I purchased the front brake disc conversion kit with it. Great kits by the way they supply everything you need. The rotors I keep with the six lug style because I didn't want to purchase new wheels at this point in time. The rotors, calipers, hoses, bearings , seals, dust plates, etc. all look like stock stuff that Napa or Advanced auto could supply you. I believe they told me at ECE just ask for parts from 1971 to a 1984 truck. You should be fine with the parts that you mentioned to save yourself some money. Rick

You need 71-87 HD rotors (1.25" width only) with matching calipers and bearings.
Make sure the spindles you buy are the HD version and NOT the 81-87 Light duty version.

Your buddy's 72 rotors will work fine on a HD spindle, because they are 1.25" wide.

Re: Disc brake conversion

What year brake hoses are used? Are there any that bolt directly to the existing drum brake hard lines?

I used ECE's "conversion" hoses on my red '69.
Direct bolt on.
