67-72 Extended Cab Projects

Yesterday we were all talking about doing an extended cab 67-72 truck project and everybody had different Ideas about using Suburban body parts, chassis, bed mods and lengths. We all agreed that the ultimate build quality / appearance was paramount so it wouldn't look scabbed together. I've seen some pretty nice attempts, including the 4 door Crew cab posted in here.

Anyway since there is such a great diversity of Experience & Skills demonstrated in here, I thought this might make an interesting Thread for Ideas and Discussion, maybe draw some of you guys that have done it already out to post particulars, even pictures. (saw this one in a gallery) also this is Mark's old truck he converted from an long bed to a short bed (good skills)

Thanks - Lee

One of the things about using the 'Burb for this conversion is the top. The tops on the 'Burb's are "crowned" a lot higher. It really makes one look out of proportion to me. That and getting the length proportioned right seem to make or break the extended cabs.

I used 2 cabs and welded them together. Roof is a skin off a suburban. The rear panel is just a door skin. Also cut a short bed down 6 " so it all fits on a long bed frame.

Great, nice work. That's what I'm talking about!

You hear people debate about body working skills and even talent but you have to admit anyone that can create a new, novel vehicle from scratch and have it really look "right" and pleasing to the eye in all 3 dimensions is truly "Art"

Re: 67-72 Extended Cab Projects

What was the donor vehicle for the extended cab side windows?
Mine just don't look right.

Re: 67-72 Extended Cab Projects

The windows actually came out off of a late 70's Dodge Club Cab. I cut them about 5" big around the window and started working them from there. The Dodge windows have a curve to them so mine have been split a part and flattened out. I also split them and made them about 2" taller and 2" wider. if I remember correctly my build thread "Wild Thing" has more pictures. Hope that helps

Re: 67-72 Extended Cab Projects

This is a pretty long thread (101 pages), but it's the best I've seen on this subject.

My absolute #1 rule on this is you must use the square cornered door from a suburban, the round corner never looks right.
