Upper lift gate support color survivors post up your pics

I just helped my brother change out the upper gate supports on his pretty original K20 and one was painted body color while the other was just galvanized metal.

I asked in another thread if they should be painted or bare and a few responded bare so I figured it must have been painted by the PO.

I saw these pics today and again makes me think they were painted body color from the factory.

I don't have pictures of mine before I painted them, but they looked like the pics you posted. The paint on my was all chipped, and flaking away plus they weren't 100% painted.

Re: Upper lift gate support color survivors post up your pics

My brother said he saw an original 4x4 sub with painted supports at the last Pomona. Im wondering if this was a 4x4/specific assembly plant thing. Also being that the supports do not seem to last long Im wondering how many were replaced with standard galvanized pieces

Vectorit, what plant was your burb built at?

To others that have posted, please list if you have a 2x or 4x and plant if your spid is intact.

Thanks

Re: Upper lift gate support color survivors post up your pics

My K20 burb came out of Freemont CA.

I will add that, under the paint the support was a galvanized finish.
I thought about wire brushing the paint off, and going with the galvanized finish but when the glass is down from the inside they look better painted.

I don't know where my burb was built, so I attached my SPID. It is 2WD and the liftgate supports are unpainted.

My 72 Burb built in Flint were bare metal as well. Not a great pic but this is what it looked like when I found the Burb under a tree 3 years ago near the Canadian border.

Re: Upper lift gate support color survivors post up your pics

Looks like mine is a bit of a wild card here - factory painted supports. This '67 2WD has been in the family since new. These pics were taken shortly before its only repaint a few years ago.
