My engine swap... Having questions

Ok so this is my first engine swap. Probably the biggest project I've tackled on this truck. The old was a 454 out of a 76? Suburban. Putting in a 327/355 (327 with 350 crank heads and bored over. Also putting in a 700r4.
I just about have every thing buttoned up when I came across these wires that plugged into the electric choke? Of my old rochester. The edelbrock I put in has manual choke. So I'm wondering what to do with these wires. Do I just tuck em and hide em? Do they serve another purpose? Here is a pic of the ones I'm talking about. There are 3 wires

FYI, If you have a 327 and you took out the 327 crank and installed a 350 crank... you now have a 350.
Both a 327 and 350 have 4" bore. The different in cubic inch is in the stroke of the crank. 327 has 3.25" stroke, the 350 has 3.48" stroke. there is a piston pin height difference from a 327 to 350, but the connecting rods will be the same.
So, Im assuming you just used a 350 crank and 350 pistons with the stock 327/350 rods (5.7" long).
So, long story short. You have a 350 (using 68/69 originally 327 block).

Was there something wrong with the 327 crank? Do you still have it?

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

Hmm. Interesting. Shop that built it says it's a 350 bored .030 over making it a 355.1 It's a 1967 small journal 327 with a custome steel 350 crank and old school 350 heads mild cam and domed pistons. Not sure about old 327 crank as I didn't build it.
Any input on those wires any body?

The big block in the picture does not have an electric choke, so I don't know what they came off of. Choke's usually only takes one wire anyway, sometimes a ground wire comes into play but not from the harness.

I can't see the wires good enough in the picture, maybe if you took a close-up of the ends of the wires to possibly identify the connectors?

Wow, That makes all kinds of no sense. a 350 crank (3.48 stroke) is a large journal. Any 1967 or earlier 327 (3.25' stroke) is a small journal and any 68 or 69 327 (3.25" stroke) is a large journal. All 327 or 350 are 4.00" inch bore.
I can't quite see on the motor you have pictured with the AC bracket mock up, but... just behind the water pump, above the timing cover and below the intake. there is a bubbled or rounded portion of the block... is there a square headed little bolt sticking out at an angle or is there nothing there? such as in this photo, this is looking up at an angle from in front of the fuel pump area (weird angle photo)
http://i54.tinypic.com/2502mjc.jpg or http://www.phoenixengine.com/Graphic...ines/24-08.jpg
(notice the little piece just above the timing cover and just below the intake)

Also, is there a breather pipe embossment hole next to the distributor in the back or no? such as in this photo:

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

It's a custom. Crank. It's shorter to fit a small journal. I looked up the block number. Its a 1967 block. Canister style so most likely out of a truck. I'm pretty sure the camaros had spin ons. I will take a close up pic of the harness when I get home.

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

They must have reground a large journal crank to the smaller journal. I have never known anyone to do that.

As far as your choke wires issue. What carb are you running?
The first image shows a big block with a Q-jet, the AC bracket image shows an edelbrock.

The first picture, is not a picture in the location of the choke. The choke is on the passenger side middle of the carb.
The solenoid in the picture is some emission related solenoid or an AC idle kick-up solenoid.

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

Yeah it's basically a shortened steel long journal crank from what I understand. It's been done before.
Here is a close up pic of the wires. They are brown black and blue. The harness only has 2 femal plugs in it. So 2 wires go into 1. Let me know what you guys think. I'd really like to clean up this wiring before I start it up next weekend.

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

I have reground mains on a few 350 cranks where customers wanted to keep their small journal block. More options going to the 2.100 diameter rods.

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

That wire should be capped off and hidden. It looks like either an idle kick up for AC or it could have been an idle stop or "anti-diesel" solenoid. Either way its not the choke, has nothing to do with the choke, and will not be useful on your new carb.

Re: My engine swap... Having questions

I will second on the A/C solenoid for high idle. That was my thought as I went through the thread then went back and looked and said to myself, Self that is the A/C idle solenoid.

My first thought was cruise control but it was just a guess..

The solenoid for CC is usually remote from the carb and there is just an additional cable to the throttle linkage, at least with most of the ones I have seen added aftermarket.
