Door Lock Question

I just got my truck out of storage on Friday and am enjoying driving her. I cannot lock the passenger door with the key when the door is closed. When the door is open the lock button goes up and down as it should and I hear the lock and unlock mechanisms clicking. Looking at the latches there doesn't seem to be any adjustments ( unless the door needs adjusting ) to the latches on the door and striker on the jamb. Would lubing the striker and latch on the door cure my problem?

Re: Door Lock Question

Greg try pushing the door in a little bit then turning the key to lock it. If that works chances are the latch is worn.

Thanks Pete, you mean the latch on the door?

Re: Door Lock Question

Went and did that and you were right. The door locks when I pushed on it and unlocks with key. Thanks for the help. I can lock the door until I get a new ( do they reproduce them ) latch.

I think it is because there is too much pressure on the door latch. If it is hard to lock you can move the striker plate on the door jamb out a little. Just be sure to mark around it with a fine felt tip marker before you loosen the bolts so you know where it was originally. I would only move it out about 1/16th of an inch to start with. Make sure it doesn't drop down any....

Also roll the window down and spray some penetrating oil on the back of the lock and on the latch. You can see down in there pretty good through the opening with the window down. (if you use a good light)

Thanks Leon, I will try that. My truck is low miler and if the latch was worn on the drivers door I could understand it but the passenger door gets used much lees so take longer to wear out.

You can buy new but finish resembles cadmium rather than phosphate coated as the original. I've seen a member have new examples phosphate coated and they turned out nice. Try a good used piece.

I think I will try Leons suggestion first and if that doesn't work can probably live with giving the door a little shove in order to lock it. I'd rather get a good used one rather than use a new one that doesn't look original.
