Water pump leak....?

Hey guys,
It seems like always one thing after another with my truck trying to get it on the road. Now I think I have a water pump issue. After the truck gets warm and the coolent pressure starts to build (I have a 16lb cap on the rad) a steady drip starts. I cannot find the exact location but I can follow the trail from the lower rad hose up to the water pump. I am assuming I need a water pump or new seals for the pump. Just wanted an experienced opinion before I tear the front off the motor.

Mike

Re: Water pump leak....?

If you have never replaced the pump then yes it could be leaking. Look for a small hole on the snout of the pump lower probably behind the fan pulley. It will seep water when the pump needs to be replaced.
I have this one if you need it...

Re: Water pump leak....?

If you're certain the hoses aren't leaking then check the "weep hole" as jjzep explained. It will weep coolant from there when the inner packing and seal around the shaft are shot.

New "short" style SBC water pump shouldn't be more than 30 bucks new.
