need a new radiator

The time has come...need to replace the radiator. What have you guys used that is a good replacement that goes in with no fuss and fits right? Everything is original if all that matters, engine, fan and shroud. Just looking for bolt back in and go.

Thanks

Tom

Re: need a new radiator

You'll get all sorts of responses to this question. I have no personal experience, but, from previous threads, I hear copper/brass radiators are hard to come by. However, I just noticed a couple weeks ago that Classic Industries sells copper/brass radiators from U.S. Radiator that look like the originals if that's what you are looking for. They aren't cheap, but Classic frequently has 20% off sales including one until Father's Day (see the promo code thread).

Here's a link to U.S. Radiator's website.

Thanks for the link Jim. Those are expensive there! I'll take all sorts of responses, I know there's someone out there that has or had the same leaky radiator problem I have haha

Local radiator shop repaired my leaky radiator and gave it a new coat of paint for $75.

They repaired my big leaks a while back, but it's got small ones now that can't be fixed. A bunch of smaller ones isn't much better now than the bigger ones it had. It's old and worn out now. I did get fresh paint on it when it went to the shop last time though lol. Thanks

I have a feeling I'll end up with plastic tanks now too. Unless I can find what cdowns is talking about. Local parts site doesn't carry brass and copper anymore

Re: need a new radiator

Most of the copper/ brass radiator manufacturers are either out of business or no longer making them except US Radiator. You can get a US radiator version that is exactly like your stock radiator for about $400 and they also have a version with better (80's style?) cooling fins for about 75-100 more. A few years back auto parts stores still had stock style brass tank radiators in their warehouses but they are all gone.

If you are not looking to spend $400-500 you can get a plastic tank radiator that cools just as good as stock for under $200 from any major auto parts store or you can go aluminum which is a whole new can of worms.

Aluminum radiators have just as many pro's as they have con's search google for more info. The biggest reason I will not be going with aluminum is I have an auto trans and radiators with aluminum fittings for the tranny cooler lines tend to strip out easily.

Re: need a new radiator

also an original style rad will have the lower rad hose inlet bent upwards to allow easier rad hose installation. ( to clear the frame)
do some research thru o'reillys. they had some a couple years ago

Re: need a new radiator

There are quite a few companies making aluminum radiators, if you can find one that uses brass or hardened aluminum fittings for the tranny cooler then my warning above would not apply. I am not aware of any but I have not researched it too much since I am just going to stick with the stock brass version. I will order whenever Classic industries has both the 20% off at the same time they actually have it in stock.

There is a brand called Champion and I have seen and heard of many people stripping out the threads rendering the internal tranny cooler useless. I would stay away from them, I helped a friend install one and he stripped out one of the holes. since it was already trash I gave the other a try (to see if it was him or the part) and WOW it had the strength of room temperature butter.

Also thank you for dedicating 11 years of your life to serve your country.

Re: need a new radiator

Nice work on the custom shroud Z10...we do make them for the ECP radiators, as well!

A lot of guys on here have our Plug-and-Play fan controllers, and love them!

I was hoping a vendor would chime in because I hate giving outdated advice. Do either of the 2 radiators you listed have the issues I ran into with the Champion radiators? I know several people have had to deal with bad cooler fittings on Champion/ ebay radiators. The ones you listed look like they are far better craftsmanship. Does your company use a hardened material on the AT fittings?

Thanks for the compliments!

I have not received any complaints on the ECP products, and feel our quality is a step above other inexpensive brands out there...granted, I am biased of course. The warranty would get you a new radiator, provided you return the original..though, product failure rarely happens

Our Entropy products are super high-end products, hardened fittings, extra thick cooling fins and tubes, etc. I would not recommend using the Entropy radiator if you're going to keep the stock mech. fan and shroud...our cooling tubes are so thick, that the oe mech fan will not pull the CFM across the entire cooling surface, and lose effectiveness..even with a good shroud. It will work, but not as well as if it was combined with our fans/shroud that it was designed to go with

Hope my info helped
