What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
I am planning on a drive to GA for a cowling. What is the farthest you have driven to get a part for your truck?

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
I took my wife and myself about 1800 miles [one way way out in west Texas for a long bed 4x4 frame for a 03 I was building that probably was like 06. We did play golf while out there then started back after loading the frame and a round of golf. I remember most about the trip was the tee markers where shaped like the state of Texas. The town was Big Spring.

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
Lets see, parts i usually have shipped but have travelled 100 miles or so to pick some up. Vehicles are different story. Last Halloween left home in the morning and 875 miles later was in South Dakota to pick up my C10 and drove her home 875 miles on November 1 St. I left here last Saturday the 13th and drove 1126 miles to Portland Oregon to pick up my 72 C20 Burb. I'm home now after having problems on the way back and the Burb is still in the Spokane area waiting to be transported back here.

Living in California, if I have to travel over 50 miles for a part, I'm not looking hard enough.

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
I went about 300 miles each way into KY (from Greenville, SC) to pick up a really nice seat I was offered for free (gas was only $1.20 then). I also went ~150 miles each way into NC to pick up a fleet side bed.
While I didn't go for anything specific, I did go from SC to Carlisle, PA (550 miles each way) a few times to meet up with my dad and came home with parts.

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
I've been from East Coast to West Coast and back for trucks ,any times. But, the farthest for a part was 1,100 miles for a shortbed frame. I'll be going to Alabama for a cab sometime in the near future.
I've been on several parts odysseys. When I went for the frame in Pensacola, FL I dropped in to Atlanta for a 71/72 GMC grille, I carried a Suburban rear hatch to FL, and on my way back was SW VA for a swb floor, and another swb floor with one bedside. On another Odyssey I went to north central MA for a K/20 HO52 No-Spin, then over and down to NJ for a 327/TH400 and buddy buckets from a '68 C/20. I went to the same place in SW VA for a high hump A/C cab light cab. I met a guy from Kansas just 1.5 hrs away in Carlisle, PA in January for a set of K/30 axles. We met at the Home Depot parking lot. When he told me the one CUCV on his trailer also had a Tru-Trac front end we got the jack and tools out and pulled the rears right there. I had to go in the stre for bolt cutters to cut the e-brake cables. The three of us stuffed all four axles into the back of my '91 Suburban and on down the road I went. That's the most money I've spent at Home Depot! These are the most recent ones I can recall

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
The farthest?? I think in reality it was a trip that one way was over 1500 miles. I'll drive damned near anywhere to get the part I need. The last trip was north of Los Angeles to Erie, Colorado for a brake pedal assembly. I'm a driving fool. I make notes of where trucks and parts are wherever I travel.. And if I'm going to get something for myself, I'll always ask around to see if someone needs something from the same route. |

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
Last December I bought my '95 Suburban in Marietta, GA. I drove a rental car down Once there I found out GA only issues temporary tags to dealers. I hopped in and drove it back with nothing displayed at all. Just had the title and bill of sale on the seat. Always a story with these runs

I have a cowl I(if you're talking the cover the windshield wiper shafts poke thru) in Greensboro NC. It's a lot shorter trip.
Just PM me if you want it.

Re: What's the farthest you have traveled for a truck part?
Today I drove for 6 hours round trip to pick up my fender, core support, and rocker panels from the media blaster. They were epoxied too.
I guess that was about a 250 mile trip. *I drive slow, much better gas mileage.* |
