Finally back in the fold! Got a 69 longbed.

PO has had it 20 years. He bought it from a tax client who restored it in 95. PO then replaced the 307 with a 350 rebuilt by another tax client, with a 4 barrel quadrajet and pointless ignition, and added a brake booster. Always garaged.

Needs a LOT of small things. Got the brake lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers working yesterday, but failed on the backup lights and horn. Looks like the horns and relay were burned out by a super sensitive horn button, which looks to have been installed without the button gasket. I've ordered everything from the horn contact spring outward.

The "Restorer" did some things that really aggravate me. First, there is no way the truck is a CST. Second, I hate that 90's upholstery. Third, he added side speakers to the AM only original radio. Why? Hell if I know, and worse, he screwed these speakers to the kick panel vents, while removing the hardware to open the vents. WTH?? At least he didn't cut up the dash or doors.

And worst of all, he replaced the glove box door with one from a 72, and didn't swap or keep the original spid. ARGH. Not seeing a build sheet anywhere either. Guess I'll never know the original configuration, other than it was built in St. Louis and came with a 6 cylinder.

Still, it's got rust free rockers and cab supports, and I'm glad to have a solid truck to build on. Will probably be the last vehicle I buy for me. Semi-retiring my midlife crisis 2-seater, and daily driving this. Will be adding power steering, sway bars, steering stabilizer, and A/C. At some point will be tackling the small rust issues in the outer door skins and painting the cab top white, and maybe adding some trim.

Glad to be a legit member of the forum now, and looking forward to expanding my knowledge. Need to search and find out how to fix the door not locking, (mechanism works, except when door is closed), and many other things.

Off to buy forum merchandise!

Re: Finally back in the fold! Got a 69 longbed.

Welcome to the forum.
I have found this to be a great bunch of people.
People with the same passion for these wonderful old trucks.
I hope that you find working on them as enjoyable as I have.
Good luck with your project and again welcome.
Jake

Welcome - now that you have the 69 you will not be semi-retired very long, you will need all your time for trucks.
