CL: someone buy this truck!

This is not mine.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/5116159441.html

Someone buy it before I make a 9 hour drive there in the morning. Sounds like it needs some work but it is a running 5.3 ls swap for 4k.

Re: CL: someone buy this truck!

If it was 4 or 5 hours away I would have never posted it. I would be getting ready for a dawn departure right now. 9 hours is a long haul though. I have no copilot to go along and I would have to tow dolley it home behind my wagon.

I agree. Looks like the frame is arched in the middle? Could be the camera lens I suppose, but it looks bent to me too.

How would it get bent in the middle? Is that common?

Could have been rear ended? Or a bad conversion to a short bed? I don't know, just saying something doesn't look right.

This is my guess too. Just not shimmed/leveled before bolting down.....come to think of it, it may have been installed level and the natural rake of the truck not considered.

doesn,'t look like the cab is up at the back ,so it may just be the bed misaligned

Re: CL: someone buy this truck!

I love how the ad says it is going up to 5k on Monday. If it were worth 5 k on Monday wouldn't it be worth 5K on Saturday? I think that is almost as bad as you had better hurry and pay me I have someone else coming at [fill in blank time here] to pick it up. Those are the ones that turn me off and I say well I guess you'll have to wait on them then.

Re: CL: someone buy this truck!

The frame was "bent" but not in the fashion that caused the bed to not sit right. The frame horns or tips or whatever were all bent up on the back as well as the front. The rear was worse than the front. Also the rear most cross member in the frame was bent badly like someone used a winch to pull on it and it couldn't take it.

I would say the bed looks funny mostly because it was barely even resting on the frame with maybe a bolt or two holding it down.

The truck had crappy bondo work all over the cab. The dash was a mess with almost none of the parts left on it. No glove box, no climate control, broken windshield, wiring was a total train wreck, battery was literally thrown in corner of engine bay, trans was missing mist of its bolts, shifter was a total hack job.

I knew it was a project that needed quite a bit of work but it was just such a mess... so far gone. You would absolutely need a parts truck to try and bring it back. Likely a new cab and I don't know how extensive the frame bending was but a new frame might be in order also.

I drove all the way down there for that after talking to the guy multiple times on the phone about the trucks condition. I don't feel like it was represented acurately at all. I left quickly and without even making the guy an offer of any kind. I just had no interest in bringing that basket case home.

Re: CL: someone buy this truck!

Sorry you made a trip like that for a tuck that wasn't well represented. I did something similar on flea bay years ago. Bought a truck in Nebraska and didn't get a chance to talk to the owner until I had closed the deal. That owner had a jewel he didn't know how to describe. When I flew out to Nebraska to close the deal, I discovered the truck was in good condition under all the dirt and neglect of sitting. That truck was a barn find that was given to a ranch hand after the owner passed away. 71,000 original miles with a nice camper still on it. I sold the camper off of it, installed new brakes, belts etc and drove it back to Maryland. That truck had been sitting over ten years when I got my hands on it. I no longer have it as my wife gave me the choice between that '69 GMC 3/4 Longhorn and the '69 C10 396BB I had as well.

Hopefully you can find a truck that will meet your needs and will be the thing you are looking for.
