How do you get this thing out?

Locate the small hole in the right side next to the key hole. Put key in ignition and using a large paper clip insert it into the hole and you should feel a spring. Keep the clip pushed in and turn key and pull out at the same time. You then can remove the ring holding it in the dash.

After you use the paper clip in the hole....

There is a tool that makes the removal of the bezel easy. I've never purchased it, but have used it once. I usually use a rubber coated spatula, or a flat blade wrapped with tape to spin the ring.

I suppose a spanner wrench could also be used to spin the bezel off.

When I answered I assume you have a key. If not you can get the old school small slide hammer and screw it into the key hole and yank the tumbler out then remove ring and switch assembly.

You have to turn the ignition to the left as far as it will go "before" you insert the paper clip. The reason I always say that is because the late '68 - '72 ignitions have an accessory position and those have to be in the accessory position before inserting the paper clip. Also, once the cylinder turns to the left a little, you need to remove the paper clip or it may bind and prevent the cylinder from turning as far as it needs to go.... If you don't have a key take the passenger side door lock out and see if there is a code number stamped into it. The code number would look something like the one in the picture below. Take that to your local locksmith and have him cut a key from the code number.... If none of the locks have been replaced the key will fit the ignition.

Don't turn it too far or it won't come out. I removed mine earlier this week and at first it felt stuck. After a few more tries I realized I could feel a small click and then I was going a little past that point which caused my issue.

Put straight wire in and follow instruction in chiltons, ugh no luck had to have a locksmith with his little hook pull the bugger out.

It may stick and the little hook trick is needed.
