72 C30 Dually build

Been following this site for some time for information on rebuilding my dually so I thought I would post some progress. Purchased this without a bed but with a dump cylinder, 402 V8, Turbo 400, 4.11 HO72.

Rebuilt front end bushings, bearings, brakes, ect. with a little fresh paint, while motor/tranny was sent off for rebuild

I wish my 71 had that motor/trans combo. I have a 400[small block] 4speed that I think I'll change to a T400 or 6.0 4L80E. Most likely just change out the trans for a auto. I'm not a fan of light blue or patina paint but I like [love ] your truck in both forms. It is really nice, good work. Jim

Motor rebuilt with RV cam (510/520, 264/268, 110), Turbo 400 with shift kit, Plan on using this truck as a flat bed for pulling car hauler and farm equipment

Looks great! Functional build and I dig the flat bed. We've got a BB in my kids 70 c30 that needs refreshed. Would you be opposed on telling me what you spent and what condition your motor was in before the rebuild? PM is fine if you don't want to broadcast it.

The small block 400 and 4 spd is a good combination that can be made to haul. I used what I had to build something that I can at least work on (no computer control). I did add an HEI distributor. With 4.10 gearing it won't pass a lot, especially gas stations. Thanks for the words.

I installed an NV4500 5 speed overdrive trans in place of the SM465 in mine. That way you still have the granny low but you also have overdrive. The best of both worlds. Here is the thread on the install.....

Yes mine is (510) Medium Blue and (521) White

I just caught this thread. Nice truck from factory, you've doing it up nicely. I'm glad to see you are keeping it useful. I had a '70 C/30 with same drivetrain, A/C, and CST trim. It was a 157" Winnebago, so cab was medium gold poly. It came with the camper removed, I put a new low-profile service body on and ran my siding business out of it for several years. Great trucks!
I see you have a fat fender Chevy car, too! On the SBC400/4spd, I loved that combo in a '72 K/20 I had (medium blue/white) with 4.10s and 35" rubber. That motor would run that truck just off idle down the interstate. You could run around in that truck all day long and never hit half throttle...effortless. It seemed like the perfect torque value. The truck felt like a feather moved with a puff of air. It got 12 mpg, which is damn good for a beefy 4wd

This is a fun truck that looks good from 50'. Has dents in about every panel but since it's a work truck, it is what it is. Used it this weekend with the car hauler to retrieve my sons Acadia which broke down on his trip home for the holidays and it performed flawlessly.
The fat fender is a 41 Chevy Business Coupe on a S10 air bag frame with 454/400. Always try to keep a couple projects to keep my mind busy and out the wife's way.
I must be a sucker for the med. blue and white. Here's a photo of a suburban I did a couple years ago. Can't believe I traded it for a Early Bronco!!!!

Saweet! It's a well loved shade of blue by many. I ended up selling that K/20 when I was trying to sell mmy white '72 K2500. Everyone wanted that one more. The GMC had a blue interior and lower trim, so I'd tell then just put upper trim on and put your blue on. I was in need of money pretty bad and a good friend whipped out enough money for me to start liking the white GMC better! I never disliked it one bit, I just loved that K/20 powertrain. The GMC will be getting a 383 treatment to it's original 350 to closely duplicate that 400. Still on the fence with the transmission. The TH350 does great, but I like that old-timey truck feel of a truck 4spd. Ultimately, if I stay automatic I have a TH400/NP205 combo for it.
