Where do you guys find your good deals?

Where do you guys look to find all the good deals on trucks? Or are the days of finding a rebuildable project for under $1000 gone?

I've been kinda looking for a while for a swb project for under $1000. I'm not even being that picky, it doesn't even have to have a drivetrain as long as the body is there & not completely destroyed. I even want the lowest optioned truck I an find so I won't feel bad about changing a few things.

Are you guys finding most of your cheap trucks by driving country roads & looking in fields? Maybe I just live in the wrong area.

I'll trade house keys if we can trade payments also

I was living my life fat, dumb, & happy. Cheap rent, lots of toys & then my wife said, "I want a house." Bam $3800 mortgage, no more toys only house projects.

SWB are harder to find, and more expensive. There's a long bed 69 or 70 down the road from me for sale for $1000.00. I posted it here a couple of weeks ago, but no one was interested.

The pickin's are getting real slim around my parts. It won't be long until they are all gone. (except the nice ones that have already been rescued)

Got both of mine by fate. Was out cruising my 72 Chevelle one morning back in 1997 and spotted my stepside with a for sale sign on it in the next town. $1,000 later, it was mine.

My other truck (71 C-20) practically fell into my lap. I was washing my car and a guy stopped and asked if I wanted to buy a parts truck because he saw my stepside. He wanted $100 but I only had $50. He said ok, I'll go get it. (I still didn't see it yet but for $50, how can you go wrong?) It was still inspected and he drove it to my house. After checking it over, there was no way I would part it out. Im a strong believer in keeping the survivors alive if at all possible. It will be seeing the road again with me behind the wheel.

I guess I should end the search for a swb until we start making more money.

I didn't know that being without a truck would be this hard. I would even take a later model swb. There's just something about a lwb truck. I can't seem to make myself like them even if they're really nice.

Have you thought about the SWB that 440 Charger has for sale on the parts board? That looks like a very good deal.

Start with a LWB with a solid body and you can always get a frame from Mothertruckers and swap everything over when you're ready ... he usually has a few frames ... you can build a shortbed from repo parts, buy a fiberglass shortbed from USBody, or find just a descent shortbed later.

Isn't that a long bed? I couldn't really tell from the pic. I've pretty much given up on finding anything evne remotely close to in running condition because of my budget.

If I spend $1-$600, my wife will be very upset with me but will forgive me. $601-$1000 would most likely get me a divorce, but I would take my chances if a decent truck came up. Anything over $1000, I just don't have. Sucks to be poor but trying to live in a middle class neighborhood in Silicon Valley.

I have been thinking alot about a step side. What's the rust like on that one?

EDIT: I didn't intend to turn this into a WTB thread. More just a rant cause I'm truckless & to see if there are any internet resources I don't know about. Please don't ban me.

My comment wasn't directed at you. I just didn't want the mod to get mad thinking I started a wanted thread in the wrong forum. It's encouraging to see that there are projects out there that I can afford.

I do search the autotrader site all the time for ALL ontario looking for stuff but never find anything. Then again I am picky, I need a cab for sure and it HAS to be a 69 since i have a 69 and want the registration to stay 69. Don't know why but I guess it's the year thing.

I may just get a cab from Bills truck shop over in Oshawa. He has some from the U.S. for 600-800$$ and yes that is CAD$$$.

I also need to get a tailgate and once I strip the box back down to steel then I will know if I need that too.

so I guess mine may be a parts truck and I should find a better one to rebuild, it all depends on stripping the box down.
