where did you find that info? all the decoders i have found say the 1750 is after 76. that is why i am confused

Hmm. My gouge says 70-75 all started with 704 and the leading 1 started in 76. But, as a service replacement with this part #, it means it is mfgr'ed in 1976 or later as a replacement for the 72 carb. This part # is also a 73-4 service replacement carb (as geezer mentioned). So all is kosher, but it's not an original 72 carb - you're both right.
