SM465 Rebuild

Got my trans apart and finally got the master kit from Novak. Everything looked good with the exception of the front china main shaft bearing. Its SUPER rough and noisy even after a thorough cleaning and lube with gear oil. The original 44 year old NDH is much smoother in comparison, pretty disappointed that Novak would allow such poor quality parts to go out the door. Thought about using the old unit but would rather have a new one since Im in there and would rather have the piece of mind.

Autozone shows a duralast available and oreily has national anyone use one of these brands? USA or china?

Anyone have a source of a quality replacement in the L.A. area that aren't crazy expensive?

Thanks

Re: SM465 Rebuild

easier than expected, needed bearing knife, press with assorted pipes and such. I was able to purchase a factory lock nut tool for 4x4 but a modified dana 44 spindle nut socket filed down a bit would work just as good, if yours is a 4x2 its not needed. If you are just doing a bearing and seal rebuild its even easier.

Here is a good thread with videos and pics.
