Couple pics of an 86 SS Monte I put together....

This car hit a dear and tore up the front clip. Before square bodies I was big into Gbodies.....I've got to get back to doing more paint/body.....I love it! I put this car together a few years back but since I'm starting to build these trucks locally now, I thought I'd share a couple pics....

Re: Couple pics of an 86 SS Monte I put together....

It was fun....I supplied a lot of the NOS parts for it...as well as a clean parts car for various hardware pieces and fasteners. The decal kit was Phoenix Graphix and it was about a half day on those alone. I had about 125 hours in it all together....this included some engine mechanical and a complete vehicle detail inside as well.

Re: Couple pics of an 86 SS Monte I put together....

This was a customers' car I put back together. It was in body shop prison for over a year without being touched. Guy got in touch with me asking if I'd take it on-and since I have a weak spot for Monte SS cars anyway, I made arrangements to bring it to my shop and I got it done for him. I did a lot more work than most body shops would ever do....I know these cars inside and out better than most.

Here's a pic of one of the 79 Montes I built and sold. It was a pro-touring type build before pro-touring was main stream. And yes those are 17x9 Impala SS rims....brand new at the time.

Nice job on those Monte's! When those were new (83-87), my dad and I would go down to the local Chevy dealer and drive one. We actually drove an 86 Areocoupe (only 200 made). They were awesome cars, but dad didn't want to spend the money on one. I have a soft spot for G bodies as well. Hurst/Olds, Monte SS, Grand Prix or GN.

Re: Couple pics of an 86 SS Monte I put together....

Nice lookin' Monte, my youngest son has a '86 Monte Carlo LS with the Euro front end. Had the body and paint done on it a few years ago after he had a slight fender bender. Was bench seat but he found a set of buckets for it in the same interior color for $50. A real quick R & R and set to go. Found a console and shifter for it but have not installed it yet.

Not very likely, he worked part time while going to local Junior College while wanting to make some $$ to buy a car. Wife and I told him we would "help" but if he wanted a car he had to work for it, thinking he would appreciate it more if he had some skin in the game so to speak. He was born in '86 and found this '86 LS on line, bought it and paid for it him self. Drove it while going to K-State and then bought a truck and got married. Now it is sitting in my retirement "playhouse" (aka shop) since can't keep his truck, wife's car and the Monte at their apartment.

Re: Couple pics of an 86 SS Monte I put together....

That's cool! I know the feeling-I remember when I bought my first Monte....my dad may have been cut from the same cloth. He said I had to buy a car that I could work on and he knew several guys who always had "old beaters". He wouldn't let me buy a 74 Nova SS 4/spd that needed engine work for $1500 at the time (this was 1992 I was 17) but he let me buy a 78 Monte with a terrible 350 rear main seal leak and a wore out carb and beat up interior for $400 tho! My very first "car repair" was the leaking valve cover gaskets lol. Ahh....good times!
