1968 advertisement/art/cleanup

I have always liked this ad, but the copy I have is small and hard to read and has a ton of lines in it.

Re: 1968 advertisement/art/cleanup

I blew it up some and got rid of the text since it was so small. I messed around in photoshop a little bit to help get rid of the lines. They looked extra bad when blew up. Has anyone else done anything similar with ads/ art?

Just thought it was funny.

Saw that 75 people had looked at it already and I figure it is now some of their desktop wallpaper. At least it is mine

Will be fun to play around with. I have seen the artistic shots thread but I have not come across an art thread. I will have to do a search.

Re: 1968 advertisement/art/cleanup

The best collection of original art and brochures with decent resolution I've found so far is at paintref.com. I do not see the ad you referenced, but there are plenty others to look at.

In regards to editing the ads, it is kind of tricky because they are all scans of original, relatively low quality (according to today's standards) magazine prints. They require quite a bit of work to clean up, and it is difficult to improve resolution or clarity. When I modify them, I accept these limitations and try to use them to my advantage, remembering that they are vintage ads afterall and it completes the look and feel to preserve that. Here are a few I've done (including a VW one because I'm also a Volkswagen guy!).

Re: 1968 advertisement/art/cleanup

This is what I was going for. I put it through filters originally just because it was such terrible quality. This one is much better.

P.S. Have any of you had prints made of the old ads/ artwork?

Nice work. Are these the highest res you have of these? I'd love a copy to print off for my office.

Yeah, that version does look significantly better. I use PaintShop Pro and the image resizing is pretty good. There are a couple different averaging, smoothing, and/or sharpening options for resizing. I've never made any prints, but I do know you can find many of these ads on ebay in original form. If you really want the best quality possible, you'd probably have to buy one of those, scan and edit it, and then print that.

That version is the original edited one I did which was based off of a scanned magazine page I found. The dimensions are 8" x 10" on this version, and I do have a 16" x 20" version but it is not as sharp. If you PM me your email I can send them to you since they are large .tif files.

Re: 1968 advertisement/art/cleanup

Here's another that I did. It's a play on the new for '60 "Torsion-Spring Ride" that Chevy advertised.
