67 grill inserts?

I have been looking at the catalogs, and am not seeing grill inserts listed anywhere. I see the large grill frame, and the insert trim, ect... But no inserts.

I have looked thru the forum, and it sounds like they are riveted on. I haven't pulled the trim off yet to look. The previous owner had painted them a gray color, and I'm not sure if they didn't prep them right or what, but the paint is all crackily, and looks bad. I'm not sure if I can sand them down and repaint, or easier to just change them if they were cheap enough. But I can't even find them listed anywhere? On one thread someone said they thought the new grills have them built into it, and not separate pieces. Any thoughts from someone that has messed with them before? Thanks! Earl

Re: 67 grill inserts?

I haven't purchased them aftermarket, but the factory one's are riveted in. fairly easy to remove if you wanted to. there is good access if you wanted to sand blast them, I have done that a few times for some in rough shape.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

I looked at the LMC link, other than the billet ones, it doesn't show the stock type that are open. It has the big grill assem, and the trim, but not the parts that rivet on? Unless I am missing something, which is entirely possible!!

They are not sold individually but do come with the new 67-68 grills.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

I drilled out the rivets on my grill to remove the inserts. That allowed me to sand blast and repaint them. I used some 10-32 stainless button head bolts to reinstall them. It worked well and they didn't interfere with the surround.

I also used two of the upper inserts on my grill and used some amber led strips for turn signals to slick it up a bit.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

I thought I've noticed something in there on some pictures I've seen. Mine are missing. Kind of strange since my truck was mostly untouched. Who knows...

Re: 67 grill inserts?

No one sells them by themselves but they do come on the new Key Parts 67-68 Grill as DaHos said and he can help you with the complete grill.

I wonder if there is a chance to convince Key Parts to sell these pieces separately?

Re: 67 grill inserts?

Thanks for the replies.... As much aftermarket support as there is for these trucks, I'm kinda surprised these parts aren't offered! I am going to see if I can make mine look ok, and if I can't I will get with those that have extra's. Thanks! Earl

Re: 67 grill inserts?

I just checked my grill and they are both there. It is off the truck right now if you need some pics.

Pics would be great if you have a chance! I would like to see what I am getting into before I start taking stuff apart. I prob won't get into it till mid-winter, the truck will be going into my garage in a couple of weeks, and have some other stuff we are doing to it first, but I am all for any info I can get. Thank you! Earl

Re: 67 grill inserts?

Not sure if this is a 67 or 68 grill but the inserts should be the same.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

If the paint is just cracked, strip and repaint them. An hour with paint stripper and a wire wheel and you'll be done.

Yes, from the factory they are riveted, as others mentioned, just use small machine screws to reattach them.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

Thank you... It looks and sounds like they are steel, I assumed they were plastic or fiberglass! I was wondering about the sandblast suggestions, but that makes more sense now... lol... I'll have to get mine all apart and see what I can do with them.

Re: 67 grill inserts?

Nope, metal, and pretty durable.
