Question fire extinguisher

Question #2...

Is this fire extinguisher a stock item too? If so, in what years and models?

Anyone else ever have one of these over here?

If I remember correctly, my dad's old 64 6cyl Ford p/u we used for runs to the dump used to have an extinguisher like this.

Hmmm. If it was not a factory option, then I'll yank it out soon.

I have never seen a setup like that before....I doubt it's factory, but I'd wait for a second opinion before yanking it.

The 1967 4x4 I picked up for parts had one in it in the same place. I was looking at it and it was made in 1967 also. I personally don't think it is stock, but it looks cool. Look on the bottle and see if there is any dates? I put one in Jenna's 71 in the same place, you never know when you might need one. I needed it like 4 months ago, I pulled over to help out an older gentleman and before I got out of the truck his car started on fire, boom got the extinguisher ran up to the car and put it out. saved the guys car and made $100.00 for being a good guy ! :p I would say keep it. IMO

My gut tells me to keep it too, maybe a sign of some catastrophe to come? Good idea, checking the date...do that later today.

My 71 has one mounted in almost the same spot. As someone else mentioned, I don't think it's factory, just a perfect spot for the bracket.

Never seen one listed in the GM books, but I'll gurantee that the dealers had them there as after production options. (dealer installed options)
That is the perfect place, and the same place I've put them in all my trucks.
I'm thinking of doing a flame job on mine here lately.

In my chev dealers price schedule for 1972 accessories it shows the fire extnguisher and the re-charge unit .

1. 2-3/4 pound dry chemical type Part # 994177 price 15.30
2. recharge unit-fire extinguisher part # 985593 price 2.20

They were offered by general motors on all models in 1972 .

Jose, has your dog been fixed? I don't know if I want to see any of the puppies getting into the wrong hands.

If you keep it, have it serviced if it is a serviceable unit. If it isn't serviceable, it surely is dead.

My burb has one in the same spot, and I was just looking at over the weekend (before I saw this thread)! I thought my Grandpa had added it at some point, but maybe not. The extinguisher has a date of 1974, so it must have been changed at some point. I'm trying to find a suitable replacement, but most of the ones out there are too large in diameter.

My Blazer had one in the same place, and my '71 GMC owners manual shows an extinguisher in the dealer list of options. I'll be putting one back in the truck soon, just need to find the bracket at home.

So now we know what a GM extinguisher looks like, what does a factory bracket look like?
