Timing set

Hi folks good afternoon:
I'm rebuilding an engine 350 modified. At your experience can you help me to decide which is the best timing set?

Re: Timing set

When I put the 383 together, used timing gears. I'll say it before everyone jumps in, they were not needed, I just like the sound...

I agree with the above post that Cloyes double rollers are good, maybe the best. Used various brands in the past and all worked well just not sure what brand are the best. Certainly would not use any off-brand for something that important...

Re: Timing set

Special heads = 461's with 2.02 right?

My next motor I think I want to try a quiet gear drive.

Re: Timing set

I remember some movie way back in the day where a guy drove a C2 corvette convertible across the desert for whatever reason. That car had timing gears and the sound of it is clear as day in my memory. It sounded very cool to me at the time and since then I've thought I would go that route some day. Haven't though

Anybody got any sound clips?

FAKE NEWS....

Every Chevrolet straight 6 has a gear driven camshaft and oil punp through the distributor similar to V8, fake news, nobody ever had an issue with the I6 cam drive but lots of haters on V8 gear drives...

I'll try to get you one. But full disclosure, I have enough issues trying to get a picture on here. Also not sure how well the cell phone recording will sound with all the other engine sounds. Headers, loud exhaust, etc...

Re: Timing set

Good idea, but bad execution. the recording isn't worth posting.... Gave it a shot. The gears are just not loud enough to hear. Wouldn't do justice to what you remember from the movie. kind of wonder if the didn't actually record a blower and substitute to sound?
