Easy '70 C10 402 oil pan removal

Having never removed the oil pan on this, I was bit nervous from all the posts that said to loosen or remove motor mounts to lift the motor or to just remove the entire motor just to get the oil pan out. Mine came out fairly easy without doing any of those. Not sure why, but I'm a happy man.

Bolts were all accessible. The TH400 trans line went up the passenger side of the pan and had to work around them a bit without removing them to get a bolt out and when lowering the pan. After beating on the pan sideways to break it loose from the cork gasket, it came right down. I'm putting a new one on. The one piece Felpro gasket is amazing. Fel-Pro Performance Oil Pan Gaskets 1884R from Summit, $34.97.

Now time to get ready to paint the motor, install a new timing cover and water pump and oil pan, and put it all together again. Ah, it'll only be 108 degrees in Vegas after sunset tonight, perfect!

Fel-Pro one piece PermaDry Plus is the only way to go. The valve cover gaskets are excellent also. They have metal torque limiters to prevent bending the metal on the pan and valve covers. Make sure to put a dab of sealant at all four corners on the pan gasket like the instructions say.
