Need 4-pin GM module

Anyone got a good junkyard spare laying around? Must be "GM". I'm tired of the foreign junk. Can send up to $10 up front for postage and effort depending on your knowledge of it. Small padded envelope would do I guess.

I'm heading junkyarding tomorrow and will check it for you; any particular years that run the 4-pin? I'll grab a couple if I find some. Just let me know what years I should be looking in.

All 1975-1980 GM. Some 1974 Cads, Buicks and Olds. After 1980 4&5 pins and then 7 pins mingled. All 7 pin have no vacuum advance. So '75-'80 is a pretty sure bet. I don't know if theres a difference between the 6 or 8 cyl. but mines a V8.

I don't know if there's any difference between the 6 & 8 cyl modules either, but I have a GM module out of a V6 HEI in my 406's HEI. It seems to run just fine.

Ive had good luck with the one from Napa.. Autozone has a fairly good one also. Most jusk yards wont tear a good HEI apart when they will sell them for $25 complete if you pull and $50 if they pull.

68 stepside- thanx. That answers that question. Are there any large pick-yer-own-parts yards in our area? I think they're the only way to go.
As far as generics...I had lengthy discussion with fellow board member who works distributor testers and he convinced me that original GM modules produce the cleanest and most reliable signal. He's seen some nasty signals on the auto parts replacements.

go get an msd module or something instead of screwing with a used module thats gonna go bad. could be tomorrow could be 2 years but ya never know

While changing the module, change the condenser along with it. It's cheep and can dirve you nuts when it starts to go---most noticeable when wet/damp but seems fine when dry. Only takes a minute to swap out with module.

I went to the Chevy dealer for one. Told him for a 78. Seems like it was $40/45 new.
