Coils Springs... Any Brand Better Than Others? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looking to swap springs in the "Ole Girl". It has cut coils only in the front (3") and 5" drop springs in the rear, we'd like a go to 4.5/6 drop. We'll be adding drop spindles with a drop spring up front versus the very short cut spring only. My first build used ECE springs, and the trucks I've had since have used CPP springs. Seems to me the ECE springs were a little tighter, less spongy than the CPPs if that makes sense. The black KYB shocks that came with my ECE kit lacked control in my opinion but I think the grey KYB Gas-A-Just units would calm that down.

With all that said, what are your thoughts on the differences between ECE and CPP springs?

I'll bring it to the top by saying mine are cpp springs. Haven't run them yet just got them installed. They seem pretty good. When I bought my springs, it was basically a convienence thing - bought all the suspension parts at the same time from the same company and that's the brand they carried. I can't imagine they would be too different in quality.

Very nice stepper.

I used Eibach springs on my blazer. But I have 4" in the rear with a 2" block. The Eibachs are much less bouncy than the cpp springs I had on my old short bed, but I also bought better shocks for the blazer so that is probably part of it.

I used the Hotchkis 2" in front (with CPP drop spindles) and 6" in rear....was extremely happy, handled alot better....but be sure and do the shock relocator and trac bar as well

Thanks, but I can't take credit for building it. A bunch of good guys from the board built it and I bought it this way, I'm just finishing up some details and adding a few preferences.

Another thumbs up here for hotchkis. You get the drop but their better spring rate makes it ride/handle better than the usual soft lowering springs.

I’ve used ECE, bell tech and CPP. Hands down I would always go with ECE. They weren’t any where near as bouncy as the others. Plus, the customer service at ECE is fantastic. And to me that’s a big selling feature as well.

My experience was the ECE springs seem to have the correct rate, and the drop height is pretty accurate. I've always just felt that ECE had better products and better customer service.

As for the shocks, there's a thread here about the KYBs just not being good shocks for lowered trucks. Some have used the "lowered" shocks from CPP. ECE actually ponies up for the RideTech HQ shocks on their own personal trucks. I'd personally get the RideTech shocks if budget allows.
