Back Window Gun Rack??

Who's got em? Who's got some pics of some in our trucks? I'm really thinking about throwing one in my 68. I'll probably throw a Red Rider BB gun in there

Pretty sure I have a pair of them in the shed. Here in Illinois rifles wouldn’t last a day in the rear glass!

Re: Back Window Gun Rack??

Hello,
I call those things "thief magnets". gives the wrong crowd a reason to look at you closer. I keep myself pretty sanitized of all indicators like gun racks, bumper stickers, window stickers, and I don't "brag" about my guns. I believe in the theory, that if you don't know what I have or what I'm capable of, then I've got a tactical advantage over you.

Thanks!
Richard

Here's mine. The .22 is the same year as the truck.

Re: Back Window Gun Rack??

Need to get a picture of my friends back window with a rack in it. Living in NY, you might think he'd be pulled over just for the rack.

I think you have the wrong idea here , when these gun racks were introduced they were and still are means to keep your gun in a safe location in theses old single cab pickup trucks when in transit because of limited cab space , I travel 76 miles from PA then through NY then in to NJ where I park my truck, and then get on a bus that takes me in to NYC every day for work ,and the gun rack never caused any issues for me at all , I am a Avid hunter and use my gun rack all the time and it also does a good job with my fishing poles also

Re: Back Window Gun Rack??

Jrainman,
Around here there have been many trucks broke into and guns stolen. There has also been numerous folks followed home and then the house was broken into the next day while the owners were at work. A number of thieves have been caught and confirmed that this was their mode of operation when interrogated by LEO's. (I got a couple of buddies on the force) My take is if nobody knows you have it they won't look at you as a target to steal from.

Re: Back Window Gun Rack??

I had a gun rack in my high school truck (a '76 GMC 4x4--thanks Grandpa).

I didn't like it. The hooks were right above my bucket seats and I bumped them with my big round head too often.

Assuming I could position the hooks better in my '72, I'm wondering if a gun rack is a good solution for a fly rod in a travel tube.
