Lower A Arm u bolt torque needed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I did a search but didn't find what I needed. Can anyone tell me what the lower A Arm U-Bolt torque is in my 71 10?

Chilton's says 45 ft-Lbs.

Not sure of what year you have. The factory service manuals have most of the torques at the end on the manual. Some are listed in the section being worked on. According to the numbers at the end...
1970 is 40 ft lbs
1972 is 45 ft lbs

Maybe the minor difference was due to the change to disc brakes?

Since '71 is the first year for disc brakes, I'd still recommend the 45 ft-Lbs.

Since you're already in there, you should run to the auto parts store and upgrade to the 9/16" u-bolts for a little extra safety.

Be glad you don't have a 3/4T truck. Getting that wrench on the nuts and pulling that 85 Ft-Lbs with practically only your fingertips isn't all that much fun. I'm glad I did the front end work before my hand surgery. I wouldn't be able to pull that torque, now.
