Clutch rod help

Morning

the wingnut spacer on my truck broke and scattered, i bought a new rod , spacer and nuts, now my question

i figured out the wingnut spacer sets top to bottom in a groove in the transmission lever, but theres alot of space behind the lever before the nut on the back of the rod, should there be a spacer (washers) or something or is this normal, i do have the wingnut spacer in front of the transmission lever butts up against the bell shaped part of the clutch rod, (should it be behind ?)

1972 c10, 350/4 bolt, 4 speed

sorry, new phone wont upload pictures

any help appreciated

Thank You

Re: Clutch rod help

THe back side. There is no adjustment at the wedge end. No spacer is needed. The adjustment is at the z-bar end with the two jamb nuts.

Also note that there is no nut on the wedge side of the rod. You can’t use one. It needs to pivot on the fork. That’s why the hole is slotted.

Re: Clutch rod help

Thanks for the pictures. I’ve got the spacer in the right place and adjusted for slack. But behind the arm or lever. Whatever you call it. There’s about a half inch of rod before the back nut

Re: Clutch rod help

Thanks. The clutch works good but I don’t want to be on the road and have it come loose because of the space between the arm and back nut

Re: Clutch rod help

You have #3 in Lock doc's parts photo?...it's not just a nut....1/8" play would be good.

Re: Clutch rod help

There is no back nut and the return spring holds it all together

Re: Clutch rod help

hey

ive got the part # 3 in the Lock Docs picture and it is in front of the shift arm sitting top to bottom just like the photo (very clean truck by the way ) the thing im questioning is behind the shift arm before the locknut on the very back of the clutch rod, theres like a half inch of steel rod before the threads on the end before the nut

Thanks

Jeff

Re: Clutch rod help

The original rod (#2) is not threaded on the wedge (#3) end. So no nut but behind the clutch fork.

Re: Clutch rod help

This photo in the catalog is not correct if that is where you are getting the idea of a nut behind the clutch fork.

Re: Clutch rod help

ok
ive got what i thought to be an original clutch rod that i replaced with a new one from lmc its the part in the picture from Lock Doc, its threaded also, had a locking nut on it, so i assumed it had to be back on there
so the rod is basically held in place from pressure from the spring and clutch adjustment

ok

Thanks to everyone
Jeff
