When is the build date cut of for new years?

I have a Chevy built in early Jan 1978. Had this been build in late Dec 1977 would it have been a 1977 model?

Did GM build 1978 models in 1977?

Re: When is the build date cut of for new years?

GM typically starts build of the model year in the September timeframe.

So - the 1978 model year would have started around September of 1977 calendar year.

Periodically they do start later or have 2 models in one year (like 2007 from memory).

We started the 2002 Escalade on January 2nd, 2001.

The only constraint is that you cannot have two January 1sts in the same model year, per Federal regulation.

My 78 does have some 77 features. The fuel line bend is from 77. Maybe that was a change mid year in 78.

Maybe.

Marketable features stick pretty close to the model year designations.

Little stuff that would probably go unnoticed can be done as a running change.

Whats the VIN date? Thats the model year of the vehicle, regardless of build date.
