Hose part number or source

Does anyone have a part number and/or supplier for the hose that goes from top of the water pump?

I am in the process of rebuilding my engine and should be done soon, I want to replace hoses etc and not sure what to even call this one.

Re: Hose part number or source

I would question why the bypass hose is needed. I've only seen those on the medium duty trucks. I'd say plug it off and forget it was there.

Re: Hose part number or source

My only concern with that is I am trying to keep the truck as much the way as it was as I can. If I have to I will but be nice if I can find a replacement hose. I started looking but I haven't seen one that same shape yet.

I have never seen a bypass like that before. The pre 67 327 light duty had a bypass factory but not quite the same as that. What year is that for?

Is that a Holley intake or a Quadrajet? I think you have a med duty intake maybe.

Re: Hose part number or source

It is a quadrajet. I cannot vouch for the originality of the intake but it sure seems like the truck was pretty much unmolested. But who knows?? Things could have been changed for sure. If stock appearance had them plugged as the norm for a 68 327 with quadrajet, then I would not have an issue plugging them.

I can get a better picture of the intake since I have the engine all apart now. Have to get out to the shop but I can do that later if it helps.

Re: Hose part number or source

Can you post the casting number off the intake, that would help narrow the application down. Also, is this the original engine to your truck? Might take some time but I can look through the parts books to see if theres any info on that hose.

Re: Hose part number or source

That is entirely possible but it sure seemed like the truck was all original. I have no way to tell really except the date codes for the block are right for a 68.

I will get a picture of the intake and the casting number. As I mentioned, I believe it is original, but it's possible it is not.

Casting number for block is:
3915678 V0316YV although that also confused me because I decoded that as built in Flint on March 16 but for a 3 speed manual.

I'll get numbers and picture of manifold after work. Thanks for the input!

Re: Hose part number or source

My GM book shows the YV suffix code as
1968 Truck 327, 240hp, TH400 trans, L-73 RPO for C10/C20 applications

Intake number shows
1968 327 Chevelle, Passenger, Corvette, Camaro, Nova
Q-jet carb

Excellent! That makes more sense. I was just searching and reading what I found! That makes more sense and sounds like it could be the original. Thank you so much for that.

Re: Hose part number or source

Does that mean it's not the original intake? Do they have the bypass on the cars?
Sounds like I am not sacrificing originality (be nice if I can find the correct manifold with the right casting for my truck) if I just plug them. Or maybe just get the plugs and carry them with me in case the hose goes at a bad time.

My pretty much original '68 C-20 CST/Custom Camper with a 327/TH400 has one, but it doesn't appear to be as big as yours.

Don't mind the oil, dirt, cobwebs, and weeds. I am going to be driving it this summer so I guess I better get to work with the pressure washer...

Sure looks and sounds like it! I ordered it and will report back when it gets here.

Thanks for this and thank for the great info about block and manifold casting numbers!

Did you post the stamped broadcast code that is on the right front of the of the block at the cylinder head to engine block surface. If so I missed it.

Mines bigger. LOL. No I think it's just the pictures. It looks the same to me, same curves for sure and same points where it attaches. It it's smaller it would just be a smaller fitting that screws into water pump and manifold.
