Center Pod in Instrument Cluster

I see most center pods are just blank with a pattern, printed on the glass I suspect. Some center pods have the turn signal indicators in them (and very large). Others contain a tach.

What determines if that pod gets the large turn signal indicators? Is it a certain trim level?

Thanks!

Re: Center Pod in Instrument Cluster

Turn signal indicators in the center might be for early year models? I would guess the tach would be an option rather than a trim level?

I'm sure better answers will follow...

Re: Center Pod in Instrument Cluster

I have a 1967 C10 and it has the big turn signal flashers in the centre pod.

If a truck has the "AMMETER OIL GAUGE" option on the SPID, then the gauge cluster will have the four additional smaller gauge openings along the bottom, and the large center gauge opening will no longer have the turn signals and oil and "generator" warning lights. I believe certain option packages included the gauge upgrade.

Thanks. This makes sense. The truck in question (not mine) does not have the AMMETER OIL GAUGE option on the SPID so the center pod with the large turn signal indicators seems to be correct for that truck.

This seems to be a bit of an unusual combination. A high percentage of the trucks I have looked at have those gauges.

Thank again!

I am not an expert on what came as standard and optional equipment, but if you take a look at the 1972 sales brochure you will see the full gauge panel mentioned for the Cheyenne Super trim level, but not for the Cheyenne, Custom Deluxe or Custom. It is also listed as an option that could be added to any trim level, as well as a tachometer.

I have owned four 67-72 trucks over the years, and only one of them (a 72 Cheyenne Super) came from the factory with full gauges. A previous owner of my truck installed a full gauge cluster, but didn't modify the wiring harness, so it didn't work right until I made the necessary modifications.

My '69 CST was built with almost every option including A/C and buckets but no gauges or power brakes. Part of the deal when we bought the truck was that they'd install power brakes before delivery. Here's a pic taken in 2010 before I started the frame off rebuild. As part of the rebuild I added gauges with tach.

EDIT: Added picture of the original purchase contract showing options and the addition of power brakes.

Re: Center Pod in Instrument Cluster

As said above Cheyenne super is the only trim level to have standard full gauges (tach/vac not included as standard) all others the gauge package was optional.

Jim, that’s pretty dang cool that after all these years you’ve still got all the original documentation. Not many can say they are the original owners anymore.

They can't say "I'm really THAT old!" either. I also have virtually every receipt as well as a log of every gallon of gas used. Probably a bit OCD though!

And that the tach has a gauge in it. Like they intended the tach area to be the oil guage or something UNLESS you ordered a tach then they'd give you the two other spaces.

lol thought this through too much.
