73-87 shift linkage on 67-72
My truck is a 69 and I’m running 72 big block motor mounts, a 454 and TH400 with Hooker 2455 Chevelle headers. The stock linkage wouldn’t clear the headers and I didn’t want to spend $200 for aftermarket stuff. I grabbed the linkage from an 87 Suburban but I’m sure any square body would work the same. The frame mount went in a factory hole with one bolt. I need to drill a second. The bell crank needed to be reclocked to allow move travel and it not over center in park. I ground down the swedge and removed the lever for the shifter linkage from the column. I flipped it over so it was closer to the frame and then test fit it. Once it was where I wanted, I tacked it together, removed it and finished welding of the truck. I did the column drop mod for more room too. The factory linkage fits great. The shifter indicator lines up perfectly and it all looks factory with plenty of adjustment. The best part is it was free to me.
