Frame vs. Cab vin help?
Was reading the recent post on vin #s and it got me looking at my truck which I purchased in Jan and have been fixing up. I figured that it’s a combination of a lot of parts but curious as to what truck the frame would be from?. Cab vin decoded to the 67, but I’m not sure how to read the frame #s. I suspect the 67 body was maybe put onto a 71/2 chassis as it’s a 5 lug, ps, etc The truck’s recent history has all been in AL and GA where they don’t require titles and TN didn’t give me any trouble at all issuing a new title so I doubt there will be any issues but I’m curious as to what I’ve actually got here : ). Spid is gone from the glovebox.
Frame # best I could see is 2A161815. Attached pic of cab plate. Thanks! Mike |

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
The frame VINs are only partial VINs - if it matches the trailing characters of your metal cab VIN, then it was born with that cab.

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
I do know that you can tell if it is a true 67 if it is missing a dimple in the frame for power steering. Or, if it has power steering right now, that dimple appears to have been added later.
I believe that your frame will turn out to be a 72.

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
None of the #s on the frame seem to coincide with the #s on the vin plate.

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
The cab is from Janesville; the frame is from Atlanta.
That's an instant flag that the two did not come together originally. K

Do any of the numbers on the frame indicate year?

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
The "2" = 1972

Re: Frame vs. Cab vin help?
I got most of the rust fixed up and getting the interior put together. It had cst badges on it when I got it, so I’m kinda going that route with it (just got the horn button yesterday).
Just making it into a cool old truck to drive around and maybe go to local cruise-ins. |
