Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

Looking at my truck I’m not at all impressed with it. The channel for the glass was different the upper corners don’t fit right at all no matter how much I work it. . The rubber itself has spots where it looks like there was air trapped in the mold . I still have the original but it’s has a small tear at the corner seam. I may put it back on

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

That looks pretty bad. I bought mine from LMC. The old gasket was hard as rock. I cut it to get the windshield out.

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

I had one form LMC. The guy had to glue it in place and it still leaked like a sieve. I bought the Precision and it fit decent.

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

Guy at the glass shop where I got my windshield specifically told me to get one from Steele as it was the best out there. While it didn't fit exactly like stock it was pretty close.

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

My rear window gasket from them was a little shrunken like yours in one of the corners.. not a big enough deal for me to switch it, though

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

Here's my precision gasket.

I wish I had pictures of the first time I installed the windshield. It looked much worse than this. I broke the first windshield and had to get another and reinstall, using the same gasket. I made sure the 2nd time to pull the gasket up hard into the corners to try to make this area look better.

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

I got mine from Steele rubber. The guy that put it in for me has done many of them through the years. He was thrilled to death with the rubber. He wanted to know were I got it. It was twice the price of LMC.

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

The rear I used the original . It was still fairly pliable went right in at 54 years old it still looks good . When I get around to it I’ll try the original .

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

My two cents.
I think it has more to do with the patience and experience of the installer.
Precision ad Steele are high quality products, but if the installer doesn’t take the time to do it right, it’s gonna leak.
When I replaced my windshield, I took it to “the Best Shop in Columbia SC”.
Long story short is that I did this right before I moved from SC to TN.
I went into get it done twice and was told the “Specialist” won’t be here till __day before my move___”. (I already paid for the glass and install, and made it clear that I didn’t want the shaded glass)
So I go in the third time, the guy was there, and did the install.
The first thing I noticed is that the glass is Shaded, which I DID NOT WANT. But I was on a serious time crunch, so I begrudgingly went with it. The first words out of the “specialist’s “ mouth, “oh Sh#t, they didn’t tell me it was a 70 Chevy, I hate putting those damn thing in”. Then he tells me the Stainless trim wasn’t factory, and it won’t fit right. The lat thing he says before he got in his truck to leave is “It’s probably going to leak because it’s a poor quality gasket”. STRIKE THREE!
I cursed out the counter people then the owner too, and told them I was disappointed in the whole process. I let them all know, thatI know A LOT of people, and will steer them away from this place of business.
PM me if any of y’all want the name.
In the Spring when I go to paint my cab, I have a guy coming out to my shop to take the glass back out, then reinstall it after the paint is done.

I installed the glass, I have installed a few in my day working in the body shop since 1977 . The glass doesn’t leak but the rubber is crap there is no way to fix it as the corner piece that is volcanized to the main part is smaller than the actual gasket. I can pretty much do these blindfolded .

The gasket is garbage . The rubber isn’t even smooth it’s not a show truck but when you buy the supposed best it shouldn’t have issues

Unfortunately it’s the best you are going to find in the world of reproduction parts

Re: Not impressed with Precision windshield rubber

This is a review on the quality of the Precision gasket. I'd contact them and see if you got a defect or are they all made that way. The bubbling in the material is an unquestionable defect.
