Tilt Column from a Vega?

Got this tilt column today out of a '72 c/10.
It's been modified to fit, wires spliced, but hard
to tell what else has been changed.

Is there any way to tell what it's from? I need
a new turn signal mechanism among other things.

Guy at the salvage yard said it was from a Vega,
but I don't know how much to take his word for it.

Did a search, but I didn't find anything about a Vega tilt.

Pic isn't posting because of server problems - I'll try again tomorrow.

Vegas did come with tilt columns. They are relatively hard to find. I would say you find them as much as you find tilts for our trucks.

The pic looks like the column had a shifter in it. Am I seeing this right? I have been messing around with vegas for about 15 years and I never have seen a column shift vega. They were all floor shift to my knowledge. I have a tilt vega column on my storage shelf that I could pull down and snap a picture or two or measure if needed. Just let me know. They are pretty short so I would be surprised if it would work in our trucks.

Snap a picture of the whole column and post it, might give us a better chance at figuring yours out.

K5hart, I'd take your word for it if you've never seen one with column shift in 15 years.

I've looked through the van tilt pics on this site and none of them look like this one.

Anyone who has seen the images chewed up and come back later - hit reload/refresh. I'm having to restart my computer to get the images to come in right.

Maybe this is just an old van tilt?

The gear selection section on the column was just barely
in the instrument's u-shaped cut out. The cut out hadn't
been modified.

It isn't a van tilt...when they whent to ignition switch in the column, they chainged the wiper control and the shift indicator.
Don't go by the wheel, that is a Chevette wheel, and tilt was an option in them starting in 77 if not mistaken. However, they also never had shifters on the column.

Could it be from a Chevelle?

Thanks for the input Longhorn Man. I'm dreading the conversation when I got to the parts store(s)

"Well, I know what it's not for..."

Please, someone has to know

Hey, since you have a truck column there, and your whatever column is out...look at the 2 switches....I'll bet they may work.

Duh, thanks Longhorn. They are virtually identical.
I'll check one out for one of our year trucks. I might
just have to change out the screws that hold it in place.
That's the only difference besides the hazard light knob
connection.

Tim, that's the problem, it could be from anything at this
point - except a Vega, Chevette, or Van. (Or Chevy Truck)

I'll have to buy a Chevelle so I can compare them

Frenchblue, if you mean the shaft that connects to the steering gear,
I think that was most likely replaced to make it work in a 72 c/10.

If the portion near the steering wheel looks like what is on a nova,
then we might be close to ID'ing this thing.

This only a guess but this may be from a 73 to 87 Chevy truck. My son has one but he is not here at the moment for me to look at it.
