small or big block??

Ok what is the absolute truth about small block and big block?
What is the differance?

I've always been told that small is block only no heads
and big block is the heads and pistons, crank shaft, rods.

someone give it to me straight!

sounds to me like your trying to find the difference between short block (no heads/intake) or a long block (cam, heads, intake and all) does that sound right?

Small block is the family of engines. They range from the 265 to the 400.
Big block is a different series of engine ranging from 396 to 572 (Factory)

(In a Chevy) Small blocks and big blocks are very different. Nothing internally in each is interchangeable. Big blocks are about 1 inch longer in the block and have much larger crank journals, connecting rods and heads. You will know when you see a big block Chevy engine; your jaw should drop when you see a small block and big block next to each other.

They are exactly as CHEVYE stated above. The short block is only the block, crank, rods and pistons.
A long block includes the heads, valves and springs and, in some cases, the intake manifold.

A short block is what CheyE has for sale right now.

A long block is what you'll need to assemble before you put it in your truck!

When you say a short block, it is engine minus the heads. If you add heads, you now have a long block.

this will be the second project i've gottne into. first replaceing the front clip and then the idea of putting the 350 in while the clip is off.!!
