Accessory Vent Shades Clips

Does anyone have a picture of the (1967-72) Accessory Vent Shades CLIPS?

I have a hand full of clips that I think are for the vent shades. I'll post a pic of what I have tomorrow. I'll be adding new vent shades to my build anyhow, but I'm curious as to how they mount. All the parts places I frequent on the web do not mention how they attach or if they come with clips or screws or anything for that matter.

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

First they used screws in the edge of the window opening. A very hard hole to drill right. Then came the clips in recent years. The Ventshades slip in between the channel and door and it's a snug fit. I've have mine mounted on my '72 for about 15 years using nothing at all. Probably just a dab of some adhesive at the back end arch would work just fine. As it is with mine (old original channel) I check from time to time to see if it's slipped down (only at the rear) and push it back up. I don't think my passenger side moves. I might have had to push that side up once or twice. I push it up a couple times a year

The clips are square and snap into the upper door window channel before you install the door window channel seal , I have an original set for my truck I'll be using . I'll post some pictures later today . They are still sold today .

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

Here's the clips I have. I had put them in a container that I wrote "Door Seal Clips" 20 years ago. All the door seals were trash and hence they went. My new Precision seals do not have anything like this so I was wondering if they would have been for the vent shades as I have a set of those in a box somewhere too. The clips fit very nicely to the back side of the door channel seal that starts at the vent window and travels back and down the door frame into the door body.

Nothing like putting one back together after all this time especially since I did not have a camera phone when the truck was taken apart. Good thing I like puzzles.

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

I also reached out to GMC Pauls asking about what kind of hardware came with their vent shades and received this quick response...

'I actually have these on my own 67 Fleetside and they require no hardware to install, these use a tension fit. The flange shown in our online photo on edge of shade locks into the door window frame opening outer edge and the tension on lip holds them in place even at high speeds. Have a really great day!!"

Best I can tell Special-K has gone CLIP-LESS.

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

Yep, clipless. Mine are used ones I had laying around from another truck. Don't know what happened to the clips, but I stopped using screws after having the drill bit slip off the edge and gouge my fresh paint. I only use the clips when the channel is already out

Those look like the ones. I don't see how these could work on a K/5. I think the Ventshades are the right form, but I'd think some way to secure them would have to be improvised.

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

The easiest way to install them is to put the shade in place then snap the 5 shade clips in place followed by the weather strip , Don't scratch your paint . The nice part is you can leave your side widows down a bit on the 67-70 models to make closing your doors a bit easier, 71-72 came with the door vents to relieve interior pressure

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

have a 1 owner all original 1967 CST what has had these vents on it since truck was brand new (dealer installed). they use the clips and no drilled holes or screws, so I'd say the clips have been around for at least 50+ years.

Re: Accessory Vent Shades Clips

Well, I guess you know your truck's history from day-1. I know my own history with these trucks since '73 and always installed Ventshades in them all. They came with screws until about 30 years ago, from my experience. I'm not here to contradict people like some like to do, so I'll suffice to say they must have come both ways and somehow none I bought came with clips until about 30 years ago
