1987 k5

Good evening, i'm usually over on the 67-72 side, but we bought a 87 k5 with 49k on it came from the carolina's.

Its got an oil cooler, a GU6 and a g80 posi so i'm guessing tow package? The decal on the rad support reads 5.7, the SPID reads LO5 which is a car engine.

I can't decode the vin, i have used Compnine, and i've done a search here also.

Vin reads 1GNEV18K5F****** And the vin is the same on the dash, SPID label, and a tag that says "this vehicle should not be equipped with a slide in camper". Though that would be a neat site.

Any help would be great, i'm lost on what we really have. We got taken a little i think. The bodies in great shape, but i think someone changed the tag, and its had some work done.
Thanks
Glen

1 = made in usa
G = GM
N = ??? should be C
E = GVWR Brake System rated 6001 - 7000 lbs
V = Conventional Cab 4X4
1 = 1/2 ton
8 = Blazer
K = 5.7 v8
5 = check digit
F = 1985 model year which doesn't fit the rest of the VIN plate

If its a 1985 then the VIN decodes as
1 = made in usa
G = GM
N = ??? should be C
E = GVWR Brake System rated 6001 - 7000 lbs
V = ??? should be K for 4X4 C for 4X2
1 = 1/2 ton
8 = Blazer
K = 5.7 v8
5 = check digit
F = 1985 model year

hope this helps

The decal shows 11/86 in the door tag. But then that first mean much, doors could have been swapped. But I dont know.

I don't know what the n is. Can't be a misprint on all 3 decals. More searching I guess.
Thanks for the info.

Hmmm - everything almost makes sense....

Actually -no. The L05 is the 5.7l 350 cu in engine used; there also was a L03 5.0l 305 cu in engine in that same time frame (not available in V Blazer, IIRC).

I agree with everything here; I'm ok with the "N" multipassenger vehicle designation because Utility wagons were designated as a "truck wagon" back in the day (so it sort of makes sense).
That "F" , however, for the model year doesn't make sense -

Are you sure you wrote it down right? Could it be "1GNEV18K5HF" (because the prefix should end with an "F" designating the assembly plant, which is Flint Michigan). You are one character short if you were trying to capture all of the spots prior to the sequence number.

And - no problems regarding the "slide in camper" note. That was a generic note added to removable top utilities, so it does not indicate any tomfoolery.

Summary: to me everything adds up except that model year indicator.

MHO -

Lo3 that's right, thank you for that, its been awhile dealing with the "newer" stuff! Lol.

I'll check the vin again. The N confused me, but now that we have that straight I'll
Check the vin again for the last digits.
Thank you
