Post Anyone have a sub under their bench seat???

I'd like the specs of the size if you know them. I'm going to be building a box for a 10 inch sub. Any tips, does and donts would be apreciated.

Me too. If not for a single 10", I personally think a pair of 8" would be easier to fit and work just as well...stick the amp on the center hump and one sub per side... I want to get the bass out of my doormounted 6.5" (and hence get rid of some of the vibes)

Talking

I thought you were talking about a sandwich! LOL

Here's the story I was going to tell just for fun:

I left a pack of peanut butter crackers in my glove box for a few weeks and one day they were gone! all that was left was the wrapper, some crumbs and lots of droppings! LOL

In closing, don't leave a sub under your seat.

Look in my web shots folder under SUBS.
http://community.webshots.com/user/frazel

Two 8 inch Hyper Pro subs in 8 inch by 49 inch long PVC pipe. Has about 1 pound of stuffing inside. Needs more. Tuned it with the seat out. Once I put the set in it got to bassey. Have a 140 watt amp running it. Hits hard. Outside mirroirs vibrate.

Has about 1/4 clearance with the seat all the way back.

got the subs from:
http://www.justwoofers.com/Default.htm

found them a litter cheaper at:
http://www.speakerdomain.com/

I have what you need. I am e-mailing you the diagram with all the measurements to fit two tens, amp, and disk changer under the seat. You will be very pleased with the end result. It is a zip file though. MSN won't let me sent files over 1500kb.

Well I've come to the conclusion that I need to put my fuel tank between the bed rails. I think my speaker depth might be a little too much to fit under the seat and still get decent sound out of it. The mounting depth is 6 inches. I need about .75 cubic feet on an inclosed box. Hmmmmmmm

With an inch and a half spacer you will make the depth just fine. And with the volume of the enclosure you have the airspace needed. Remember, the box is ported. Tuning the enclosure by starting with longer tubes and cutting to the desired bass resonance is how this enclosure works. Trust me, it will be louder, and deeper than you can imagine.

Any speaker over a twelve is a waste of money. The bass reflex is too loose. The cone cannot keep up with the beat and you end up with alot of distortion. Unless you like that slow bass crap like Screw, they are useless. Please do not argue that they use them in Amps and PA's because that is a much different system and speaker all together. Much shallower and a much tighter cone and coil setup. Not to mention a dedicated amp and only one instrument input, no mixing of frequencies, completely different subject.

my new 72, your right about the 12s on up.

but some guys happen to like the the groud to shake outside and be heard from a mile away, which is alot easier to do with 12s and 15s

i like you, prefer the sound of 10s anyday, lots of bass can be had and its still hits cleanly.

im going to put on JL w6 sub in my truck, no need for 2, 1 will be loud enough at 3ohms with a good quality amp.

I have beaten 12's and 15's in stereo competitions with 10's. It's all about the setup. If you know what you are doing, then noone can touch you.

my new 72 - just wondering, do you still have a gas tank in the cab or not? Though I'd like to eventually relocate it, that's something that'll have to wait for quite some time until I have the entire truck stripped, straighten out the dents (it's picked up its share of small ones along the way), and have it all repainted (get it all in one shot).

I dont think I have as much room under the seat as you do. I checked your measurements to my truck, I think my seat sags a little more than yours. I measured about 5 inches and that would be with the speaker touching the seat. My girlfriend rides with me allot and I dont want her butt to put a hole in the speaker. Not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet.

Project70,
Yes I still have the tank in the cab. I am going to relocate it eventually, and when I do I will make my box into an L shaped one that goesunder and extends up the back of the cab. There are lots of cool ways to do this. I have designed and made boxes for so many different vehicles that I comdine alot of them when I can to make a really trick enclosure.

I think it is personal prefferance. I have owned alot of systems. 8's, 10's, 12', and now 15's. I must say I have had 10's and 12's that hit hard, BUT as you said if it is done correctly, the subs hit harder. This also goes for 15's. In my Tahoe I currently have a pair of Rockford 15's. I LOVE IT. Got 12's in the Maxima right now and I don't even like to drive it anymore. I will find a way to stuff 15's in the cab of my truck also. It's just personal preference IMO.

fwiw, I have 2-8's that hit harder and have more definition than the single 12 that I had-it was too boomy. Being a bass player, I tend to listen more to the bottom end, I like to be able to hear intricate bass parts. Plus the crap I listen to has guitars tuned down with TONS of bottom end! Best advise is listen to many different systems in your budget range to really get an idea of what you want.

Thumbs up

My friend worked for a Custom AutoSound place in Fort Worth for many years. He was one of those guys who would enter the decibile contests. He said he could get a couple of 10's behind my seat comfortably if I would relocate the tank. Whenever I'm ready for this step, he's doing it all. He's really good at what he does.

I love his Dakota. He's got the seat taken out of the back. He filled that space with subs and amps. He took the headliner off and installed two equalizers with a crossover. He has a Kenwood CD/DVD player that has the screen that pops out. He also has a TV tuner, where we can watch TV on his DVD player screen. It's very loud and very sweet.

i have a boston 10 under my seat, had to raise the seat up just a hair, i have the gas tank out of the truck, its nice to have a place to put stuff behind the seat. i've eventually going to 240sx buckets and i'll get rid of this and get 2 10's behind the seat.

Nate68 couldnt get your link to work. I use to have 2 12inch Kicker comps in the back of my blazer and they would rattle your brain. I just want a little bit of base to make everything sound good. If I wanted I'm sure I could slam a Punch DVC 10 with the punch 400.4 amp I have. That speaker is rated at 1000 watts. I think the best way will be to get rid of the gas tank, plus it'll add to preformance side as well.
