Hey everyone. Just wanted to re-introduce myself. I was a member of the board nearly two years ago when I had a '70 C10 that was dubbed a space craft by many. Maybe these pictures will refresh your memory! Well, that truck found a new home not long after. Ever since I've always wanted another one. I bought it tonight!!

It's a "Hugger Orange" 72 C10 shortbed! 350 V8 (bored .030), lowered 3-4", with 255/60/15 tires all around. Brand new inner fenders, hood, instrument panel, dash, etc. Not to mention a fresh HEI distributor, new heads, and a freshly rebuit Turbo Hydramatic tranny. I'm going back in 2 days (Aug. 1st) to pick up all the extra parts that were included. Like-new doors (a pair), brand new chrome rear bumper, a set of new inner fenders, etc.

Does anyone know of any sites that list Engine/Tranny codes? I have the "Red Book" around here someplace if I can find it. But I remember there being a few excellent websites on these trucks.

Anyway, just wanted to say Howdy... and I'll be around these parts quite often. Will have pictures SOON!

LOL! I've been here and there. Mainly there. But now I'll definitely be HERE more! Can't wait to get back in the swing of these classic trucks. I kinda missed it over here..... I've been a member of ClubGP now for awhile (Late model GrandPrix forum) and it doesn't have the same feel as these forums! But both of them are great... I'm glad to be back!!

www.mortec.com has block casting numbers. For trans codes, I found this in a TH350 book published by HP Books:

The 69-72 models have the code stamped on either the 1-2 accumulator cover ( located on the passenger's side of the case) or on the vertical surface of the driver's side of the oil pan. For 73 and later, the code may be on the governor cover. The code you find will be something like this: Y9H20D, which is the actual code from my original 69 trans. Here's how to read the code:

first letter (plant)
Y= Toledo
B=Parma (?)
X=Cleveland

first number (year produced)
0=1970 or 1980
9=1969 or 1979
8=1978
7=1977
6=1976 or 1986
(you get the idea)

second letter (month produced)
A=Jan
B=Feb
C=Mar
D=Apr
E=May
H=June
K=July
M=Aug
P=Sep
R=Oct
S=Nov
T=Dec

two numbers (day of month produced)
04=4th day of month
25=25th day of month
etc.

last letter (shift)
D=day
N=night

Unfortunately, the accumulator and governor covers, along with the oil pan may have been replaced over the years. On some models, the truck's VIN number may be cast into the passenger's side of the case just above the oil pan surface near the converter housing. However, my 69 doesn't have this. Have fun.

hey Russ sounds like a sweet truck!! I will have to keep an eye out for it next time I am in Decatur. I have relatives there and so I am there often. Everytime I am there I see a couple of 67-72 pickups....usually beaters though. I am from Chenoa (just north of Bloomington/Normal). Hopefully I will make it to cruise in down your way. Isn't there one in Forsyth once a month??

They've really posted pictures of that old truck on Beaterz.com? LOL! That is HILARIOUS! I love it! It would certainly qualify!

The story behind the truck? Well. I'm not quite sure. I guess you could say my grandfather was a bit on the eccentric side? Looney perhaps? I am not close to him at all so I can only assume. He also had a thing for painting everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) red! Dishes, silverware, furniture.... you name it. I think it was just his way of being "very" different. I remember seeing the truck driving down the street when I was a little kid, maybe 4 or 5. He'd park it WAY out in the parking lot of the grocery store and walk a country mile..... guess he didn't want anyone pushing a cart into it. Then again, he DID sacrifice a couple of shopping carts for all the metal on that thing... LOL

And I do believe they have carshows up at the Advanced Autoparts in Forsyth on a regular basis. There some sweet classics in this area, but I don't believe I've every seen a REAL nice '67-72 driving around.... only at the shows. I hope to change of all that!!!

Welp, I'm at work now... so I better get out of this forum before the IT guys have a fit!

Have fun. __________________ Mike 1969 C10 LWB -- owned for 34 years. 350/TH350, 3.08 posi, 1st Gen Vintage Air, AAW wiring harness, 5-lug conversion, 1985 spindles and brakes. 1982 C10 SWB -- sold 1981 C10 Silverado LWB -- sold, but wish I still had it! 1969 C10 (not the current one) that I bought in the early 1980s. Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman. Worked part-time over the years for an engine builder and a classic car repair shop. Member here for 23 years! This is the very first car/truck Internet forum I joined.
