6lug to 5 Lug

If I get a drum for a 5 lug wheel, can I just throw that on , as upposed to buiying a swap kit to get a 5 lug wheel, or is it more involved, hence the need for a kit?

If you are talking rear you have these options, 1970 trucks can pull the rear axles from 71-72 trucks and use them with 5 lug drums. 67-69 you can either bolt a 5 lug rearend under or pull axles and have them plugged, redrilled for 5 lug pattern. If your talking front you would need both hub & drum plugged and redrilled for 5 lug.

JMAC05,

There's a few ways to get there. On the rear the easiest is to swap in a 71-72 with 5 lug. I have a 69 with plugged and redrilled to 5 lug rear in mine. But I think this may cost as much as a whole rearend from a wrecking yard.

On the front there are a few options as well. The most popular is to swap a later model front cross member thus getting disk brakes for the front in the deal. You need the whole cross member and brake booster/master cyclinder, lines and everything. Front ends from 71-80's will work with little mods.( enlongate 2 holes).

Also there are aftermarket kits such as the Early Classic disk brake kits. These also can come with lowered spindles. Several of the venders on the board carry them.
