using an '85 305 block on my '67 Chevy

My '85 camaro was just totalled. The motor is still good. It had TPI for it's intake and an electric fuel pump in the tank.

I want to use this block to replace my flat camed/leaking/burning oil 283.

The only questions I have are... will a mid 70's HEI distributor work on that camshaft... and what do I do about the fuel pump, since I don't believe the mechanical one is going to fit on the 305.

universal electric fuel pump, about 30 bucks.... not sure about the distributor

Some of the first designs of TPI and TBI used a block off plate for the fuel pump mountings. Some are drilled for the rod and some are not. You'll have to look and see if the hole is drilled. If not, grab a universal as mentioned before.... get a good quality pump though. Cheapies tend to be VERY noisy!

Also, on the TPI, alot of them were roller camshaft's in which case you would need a bronze gear instead of the steel gear.

You'll also need to change intake manifolds. Edelbrock makes a performerRPM for the 18degree heads if thats what it has. Look at the 4 center intake bolts. Do they stand up straighter than the others? if so... you'll need to buy an intake.

I do have the block off plate for the fuel Pimp. I do have a roller cam because I know my lifters are rollers. Is is possible to get a bronze gear for the distributor without replacing the distributor/cam? I have the old style heads they are all the same degree. Which means the intake I have on my 283 should work.

I looked at both my distributors... the TPI and the HEI I want to use.... the gears look: The same... just a basical metallic silver...

'85 was the first year of TPI maybe they didn't go bronze then?
