64 Re-do in progress

Well, finally got started on redo-ing my 64 GMC. My son and I got the front fender assembly off with no problem.

We got the bed of yesterday.....with a lot of grinding and cutting off rusted bolts.....

The Cab comes off next, then the frame gets sandblasted.......

I am looking to put maybe a 350 or a 327 in the truck, with an auto tranny..
I have disc brakes to put on the front.....
A new rear end to put on...
Gas tank in the rear....

anyway, just learning as I go along........

If anyone has any helpful suggestions, or has learned from their mistakes, PLEASE......throw them my way

Having never done this before, this board is a great place to learn and ask questions.......

I will put the other photo's on when I get the chance..

Chad

Smile Great stuff!

You are doing what I wnat to do with my 65 GMC. I'm gonna stay with the stocker V6, but I hope you keep posting and show us some details regarding body work and frame restoration, etc. The boy will remember that forever. How are the floor pans in your cab? Brad

hopefuly to save you some time with them rusted bolts, get your self some PB Blaster, soak them bolts and let them sit for about an hour and they usealy will brake free. If not then try the grinder. The stuff works better than liquid wrench or wd-40

Oh and another thing is to get you a chair sit back and let that young man do the work. You might find hard work is fun, you could sit and watch it for hours LOL

Talking

We finally got the bed off...had to grind off the bed strips, the bolts were rusted up to bad, but the rest on the fenders and the cross sills came of pretty easy...

I let my son do most of the work getting it apart...

I had pics of the bed completely apart, but I think he put them on his computer, so here are a couple of the bed off the truck
I had to move the truck in the garage, my wife said I couldn't kee a stripped truckin the driveway.......Oh well.....Every now and then she comes out, looks at the truck, asks "How much is that going to cost?" then goes back inside with a little whimper....hahahaha

she told me to do it!!!!!! I love it!!! Nah, she's a great supporter!!!

What is PB Blaster? I use Kroil myself for bad bolts, it works great.

Brad, the drivers side floor will need a replacement patch, as will the rockers on both sides....

Other than that, the cab corners are good, and most else...maybe a little surface rust where the paint got rubbed off......
