help with a challange

Ive had this idea for years... taking my 72... getting another cab off of a 72... cutting the backs off, and 'putting' them together... so it would be a crew cab, with suicide doors in back... a windshield in front and back... and i would have to cut the long box down quite a ways...

the only problem is placing my gas tank somewhere.. and id need some suggestions on how to re-do the back dash to make it look decent... so far, i just have the 1st pickup... so dont be asking for pictures as of yet!!!

I would think the gas tank would be easy, just install a blazer tank under the bed. But making the interior look good.... thats beyond me.

I think one of your major issues would be getting the firewall and the panel under the windsheild (rear) to look decent and match up with the bed height.

And then there's the frame lengthening, (unless you want a 3' bed) and the brake/fuel lines, and the rear cab mounting points, and the drive shaft lengthing/addition

Not trying to rain on your parade... just please think of all of this before you hack up a good cab.

But, if you get it right I think it would be cool. You'd get some looks, that's for sure!

are you going to leave the back seats backwards or turn them around so the rear passagers can see where there going ?

Someone recently posted a picture of what you are talking about doing but it was a farm truck. Anyone remember this?

I remember, but wasn't it a flatbed truck, or some kind of tow truck...??? I agree on the "back of the cab" issue. Be interesting to see what you come up with for the "back of the cab," as I don't have any good ideas other than putting the cab the correct way and purcahsing a suicide door hinge kit

burb- that was one of the issues i thought of with the firewall... i think that shouldn't be such a problem... i could most likely take the back of the 'back' cab and put it on the front of it to patch up the firewall a bit... lengthing the frame, etc isn't a big worry for me... just a little time and tlc is all(but then again this is hopefully going to be a show truck... so does it matter if the box is useful or not?). Ive worked in welding shops my whole life building prototypes of just about everythign... pretty sure i could come up with something!

tn- I had planned on turning the back seat forwards (as in forwards in the truck)

67- wouldn't putting a cab on the correct way kind of ruin the idea of having the cabs back to back? ive seen plenty of reg-cabs added to make crews, but never back to back... which makes this project more fun!!!


the more we talk about this, were going to have to come up with code names for everything... since were dealing with 2 cabs reversed on each other and what not!!!

Why don't you ask one of the photoshop gurus to have a go at it and see what they come up with.

On the 'back cab', why couldn't you use part of the back wall that you are removing and make the exposed firewall go straight down under the rear "windshield". Completely cut off the cowl area and go straight down from the glass. Then it would have the 'correct' ridges like any other cab?!?!
You might also consider a unibody setup. That way all the gaps and such will be real close at the rear doors.

Thats pretty much what my thoughts were... to cut off the firewall right where the hood ends.
The only problem I'd have then is I'd have to curve the front of my box to match.

Only change I would make to that is install 1-piece windows all around, make the drip rail continue straight at the back of cab-1 instead of following the door downward, and shave the handles (at least on the rear).

Fuel tank would be easy to mount under the rear dash area. Your not going to be able to sit real far back due to the angle of the rear glass. Why not use a front clip for the bed since you are goin about this the odd way. The hood would make a perfect tonneau cover.

I'm not stealing your idea, ive had this idea for years, and just became a member like a week ago. furthermore, i didnt know you had this idea to begin with... HOWEVER, my idea is a little different, and alot more complex because im keeping the box on the truck, you just want an entire cab/front clip back to back... thats nothing new, theres a 86 celebrity in my hometown that someone did that too.


Im not insulting your idea or anything, just letting you know i didnt 'steal' anything of yours.

This has allready been done. Tomatocity refered to it. It was a pretty beat up farm truck. Blue and white if I remember. Never saved the pic as it didn't really blow my skirt up. I did like the way the pillar looked between the doors. Reminds me of a texas longhorn. (Not the truck, the STEER) I would leave the drip rail exactly like the pic. That was how the other truck was done also.

same year? it does kind of look cool, and would be easy to just leave it the same, instead of changing it... i posted in my photoshop thread to see what they can do about changing it to something a little different... im just curious if it would look right or not.

but i guess that really doesnt matter since the entire truck doesnt look right!!!!
