One of our members did this with a 31 gallon blazer tank. I like it . .

I put a 35 gallon one from a 1986 sub. in my 71 Shortbox. Tank. filler neck, filler door, pickup, and crossmembers came from donor vehicle in junkyard. Tank looked brand new and found out it was replaced less than 20 miles before accident that totalled front end. Vehicle was diesel, so all it needed was cleaning. Also means no filler baffles. Had to weld crossmembers into frame and cut small area in bed floor for filler neck. Also installed filler door in right side of bed. Will look stock outside when painted. (To the uninformed anyways) I lost about 12 sq. in. of bed space behind right rear wheelwell. Hope this helps.

w/o the cross member for the spare you i went with a fuel cell from summit SUM 290104 and it is only 9 in deep. great for my slammed 68. it has baffles but the sending unit is sold sep for $75. but that is only a total of $190. i also bought the straps for an extra $20 but could have easily made them myself. A good hint: don't order the ones for drag racing. these come w/ flush caps but if you are going to be filling through the bed get the ones for circle track. the only diff is they have a raised cap. the circle track 16 gal 25X17X10 is SUM 290105 and the 22 gal 25X17X14 is SUM 290109. the spacing in your frame should be 19X29. Figure out how you are going to connect all your fuel lines though. You will need AN fittings and lowes can help you convert if you desire.

My buddy just fitted a Jeep tank (don't know what year) to his truck, and it's a real good fit for the back of our chassis.

FYI: I've been looking @ a gas tank/tool box combo unit a my local Northern store. They come in various sizes ranging from 19gals & up + they start around 300$. The unit I was looking @ was 19 gals & total height was around 16" tall so it would fit below the bed rails & would'nt be visible. You would need to get one w/a provision for a sending unit for the fuel guage. Check the internet for toolboxes @ truckaddons.com.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
