help fixing brake leak

ok, well i found where the leaking fluid is coming from.

its coming from the between where the Master Cylinder and the Reservoir meet. its on the rear brake portion of it, anytime i get to driving, i get back home and find that fluid has spattered out all down the booster and on my inner fender.

how hard will this be to fix?

do i need a whole new MC or just the reservoir?

Very easy fix Eric

Just run to Napa, and get a master cylinder rebuild kit. You simply put the master cylinder into a vice, use a screwdriver to shove the piston down enough to get the snap ring off, then dump both pistons and all the springs out. Replace the seals, and clean everything up, then shove it back in, in the same order it came out, and replace the snap ring.

Install the master cylinder back onto the booster, and put the lines back. Fill the master cylinder full of fluid, and pump the brakes a couple of times, re-fill as needed. After you don't get any more bubbles coming up when pumping, get a buddy to pump the pedal up, and hold it down while you crack one of the lines open. A bunch of air should hiss out, followed by a healthy shot of brake fluid. Have you buddy re-pump the brakes, and do the other line. Repeat twice for each line, making sure you don't empty the master cylinder of all it's fluid.

Top the fluid up, wipe everything down, and go on your merry way.

Make sure you cover up any painted surfaces before bleeding the lines, brake fluid eats paint better than some paint strippers do...

russ has a great point there. i just want to restate the part about cleaning the fluid. it eats paint bad and clean it quick and that should keep you from getting rust.
