Bringing another one home

Hi All, been hangin around but haven't posted in awhile. Some of you might remember when I drove my 72 Burb from Ca. to Pa. when I moved two years ago. I lost a camshaft 400 miles into the trip (flagstaff Arizona) met some cool people there that got me on the road again. Well the 72 is in the paint shop, and I was looking for some patch panels on oldride.com when I saw a blue 72 GMC burb for sale. It looked familiar, two years ago while driving my green 72 Burb to Home Depot in Corona Ca. I spotted a blue one across the parking lot. We drove toward eachother, parked and introduced ourselves. Really cool guy and a nicely restored GMC. I would have liked to hang out with this guy but I was prepping for my move east. So I call the owner of the GMC on oldride and sure enough it's him, he's got too many projects and has to sell some. I'm selling off a couple to make this happen, a chrysler and a harley, don't worry, keeping the Chev's. So I'm heading to Ca. on the 5th of April to hang with the family, buy the GMC and make the drive once again. My neighbor, the paint shop owner that's working on the other, is flying down to make the trip with me. The GMC has 10.000 miles on her since the restore in1996, 4-bolt 350 700r4 with 4.11's , 3/4 ton military surplus axle's. Should make the trip just fine. I just opened a photobucket account to share pics, so they're on the way.

Re: Bringing another one home

Thanks Guys, I'll definitely bring a list of members just in case. The last time
I made this journey a few people left me their address to swing on by if time allowed. I think some we're talking about putting together a formal list of sorts. I have a little time here so I thought I'd post a few more pics.

Re: Bringing another one home

Rusty - Is that road sign outside of Vegas? In Feb 06 I pulled off there with an overheated blonde(unfortunately my wife) and an overheated 98 Chev Lumina. Added some coolant and took off again. Made it all the way home to Tacoma without incident.

I remember you use to post alot and I had seen that sign. Funny how certain things stick with a person.

Looks like a super Burban. Enjoy it - Bob

Re: Bringing another one home

hey Bob, I would have to say "Yes" on the sign being on the highway 15 near vegas. Unless there is another street in this country with that name. How exactly do you pronounce that?

Re: Bringing another one home

Thanks for the kind words, and Turbo is right. The sign is in the middle of the desert near Baker "home of the worlds largest thermometer" The pronunciation is ziz-zix, according to a friend of mine the land around there was purchased by a doctor sometime around the fifties. He touted the healthy climate and benefits of the hot springs in the area. Supposedly many of hollywoods elite frequented there as well as affluent people from around the world.I was told he chose the name to guarantee himself the last entry in the phone book. There are still some of the structures standing out there far from the road. I'm intrigued with the whole Death Valley area out there, prior to my moving east I was rigging my 71 k10 to wander out there for days on end. Something about being close to 100 miles from anyone in all directions appealed to me, still does. I still have a little piece of land in arizona and hope to build there someday and continue my quest for desert exploration.
Thanks again for the kind words

Would somebody heat that link up for me if it's cold.
