How Hard is it to change ball joints?

I did a test fit of the new cleats (38.5x15x15 super swamper boggers) on my 72 blazer and found the left lower ball joint is shot. Just when you think your done spending money, something else comes up. Doesnt look that hard, just thought id ask for some info. Thanks

Re: How Hard is it to change ball joints?

It isn't too hard, mostly time consuming. You will either need to get a ball joint press or have them pressed out/in at a shop. You will also need a special socket to remove the hubs, but they are like $10.

I had a shop estimate it once on my '69 and they wanted over $700 for one side (upper & lower). I did the work myself in about a day. Pick up a Hanes manual and it shows you most of the process.

Re: How Hard is it to change ball joints?

you just need a big hammer and know where to hit, I never use a press for ball joints. there are some special sockets you need, but other than that I just use a hammer to pund the old ones out then smack the new ones in.
